ReadyNAS 314 ReadyCloud Mobile App not connecting outside local network

Hello,

I was previously able to connect from the ReadyCloud iOS app to my ReadyNAS RN314 device from LTE and from local wifi. After clicking "Leave" from the admin console of the ReadyNAS and confirming by clicking "Leave" again on the popup, the ReadyCloud Cloud feature was unregistered. I was registered with my MyNetgear account.

I turned the ReadyCloud feature on and registered using my MyNetgear account and the service accepted and turned on.

I then used the iOS app to connect to the ReadyNAS device and I was able to list the device and connect to it to list out folders (shares). I was able to connect when my iOS device was on wifi of my local network, which the ReadyNAS device was apart of. If I switched my wifi off my iOS device, I was able to list devices within the app, but unable to connect to list shares.

If I use the http://readycloud.netgear.com/client/index.html portal from my phone while on LTE or on wifi, I can list the ReadyNAS device and list out the shares.

ReadyNAS device is version: 6.5.1

iOS ReadyCloud app is version: 1.5.9 (139)

I thought the problem might be with my network.

Network topology is: Internet provider RG -> Asus router (wifi used) -> iOS Device and ReadyNAS

I changed my Internet provider RG to DMZ+ mode for the Asus router meaning that all traffic is allowed in to the Asus router. There should be nothing blocking the connection. I did this as I wasn't sure what ports the ReadyNAS ReadyCloud feature required.

This did NOT fix the problem.

Any ideas as for why I can connect from my iOS device ReadyCloud app to the ReadyNAS device while on wifi and not LTE (can list devices, but can't list shares)?

  • Tried yesturday morning connecting and listing shares from the iOS ReadyCloud app to my ReadyNAS over LTE and it worked. The status indicated "Connecting", "Refreshing", then "Connected (VPN)".

This baffles me as the iOS app did not get updated,
The ReadyNAS did not get updated,
I did not change any settings on my ReadyNAS, iOS App, or network since it wasn't working.

So I can connect from LTE and local network WIFI.

I then tested on a different WIFI network connecting to my network at home (where the NAS has always been connected) and from the Android app to see if its works. I found I can connect and list shares with the Android app on a different and the same WIFI network as the ReadyNAS. iOS also was able to connect and list shares on a different and the same WIFI network as the ReadyNAS.

Not sure what changed. Maybe Netgear's systems had to refresh registered devices.

    Glad it is working.

    Hi dcstingray,

I've seen a similar post recently here in the community. Can you confirm if you can access your files using desktop /or android app via LTE or another network?

    Kind regards,

        Hi dcstingray,

It's great to hear that your ReadyNAS is now accessible via ReadyCLOUD desktop /or mobile apps. Kindly close this thread by clicking the "Accept as Solution" button in one of the responses that you received. Let us also help you with your ReadyNAS replicate registration issue.

  • I have had this exact same d*** problem for months! Ever since the stupid ReadyCloud to MyNetGear account changes. I can connect with PC from anywhere and see my shares/files. But when I use the iOS app, I can only get to my files when on my home network ( where the Ready Cloud device is). When I am off my home network, it shows my device as online, but connecting always fails. I have made sure that I have the latest firmware for the device, and the latest app version for my iPhone. Still no change. It's quite useless to me right now. This is the last Netgear item I will buy.
