How to increase max upload size for piwigo
I tried asking this question in the piwigo forums since it seems to be a common complaint that the max size for uploading files is 2 MB. There wasn't much help as soon as "ReadyNAS" was mentioned, the response basically being "nothing to do with us it's a setting on the ReadyNAS box".
So I looked around and found how to change this. It's quite simple once you know how. But you do have to enable and use SSH (if you don;t know what that is or how to use it, then it;s probably best to stop there as playing around with it could lead to issues and you are warned about enabling it). On the assumption you know what you're doing... read on..
You need to modify php.ini - you will find the keywords "upload_max_filesize" and "post_max_filesize". These were set to 2M and 8M respectively in my case - piwigo uses the "upload_max_filesize" setting. So you can increase that up to "post_max_filesize". In other words, up to 8M - if you want more than 8M then you have to increase both values.
The file itself (php.ini) is located at /etc/php5/apache2
I used vi to modify it, then you have to restart the ReadyNAS box (you might be able to just restart piwigo but I couldn;t find that part out).

- super_poussinVirtuosoWill increase the value in next release
- AndypigpenDoranAspirantIt would be even better to have a UI capability to set the upload size instead of having to use SSH to go in and find the file to modify. Whatever new default you set, someone will want "more"...
- JohnNultyApprentice+1 ..... for this updated capability S-P please
By the way, S-P, many thanks for your work in porting this ap. I got totally fed up with trying to get PhotosII working, so have just tried piwigo over the last few days, and I'm hooked.
S-P to the rescue again :D
Cheers - JohnNultyApprenticeAh, I obviously spoke too soon....
I thought I had everything sorted, but then I realised that the album I had was not real, but 'virtual' - see below for an extract from the piwigo admin page:
100 photos (first photo added on Tuesday 31 December 2013)
1 album included 0 physical and 1 virtual (100 associations)
4 tags (8 associations)
and the site manager page:
./galleries/
(Local, 0 Albums, 0 photos)
Sorry for the real noob question, S-P, but how do I turn the 'virtual album' into a 'real' one, held on the NAS. I feel like an idiot, but I have trawled this and the piwigo forums and cannot find the answer  . I'm not a coder either, so hopefully the answer will not involving SSH, or I'll be lost in seconds...
Thanks for any help. - JohnNultyApprenticeOK, so now I have been able to upload photos using filezilla to the /galleries folderon the NAS, but when I 'synch' them (directories only, or directories and data...in fact any combination of ticks in boxes on the synch sheet) it reports back that there are no files or directories in the /galleries folder. Checking back with filezilla and ftp-ing in to the folder, they are there. Any ideas? Should I just remove the app and try again? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me to distraction. I haven't tried asking on the piwigo forums - the posts I have seen so far on there indicate that if you ask questions about a ReadyNAS install, you just get a 'ask Netgear' answer
- JohnNultyApprenticeGetting more confused by the hour, unfortunately. I decided that I had duped my self into thinking piwigo had created a folder on the NAS by using their own pLoader app, and populated it with a few photos. It appears not, as I could not see the folder using filezilla, and when I tried synch-ing it using the piwigo tools|synch menu nothing happens and the galleries folder is still reported as empty. I have used another of S-P's plugins (PHPSysInfo for ReadyNAS) to confirm mysqld process is running on the NAS, so I uninstalled piwigo and started again. Same problems with the new installation  . What I can't get my head around is that filezilla cannot see the ./galleries folder that piwigo says is produced by installing the app in the first place. It's probably some kind of root permissions thing, but the piwigo website assumes quite a high level of technical open source knowledge, which I do not possess.
It's probably obvious that I'm still a newbie at this, and I should probably stick to 'childrens toys' such as vanilla Windows applications, but we all have to start from a baseline - it just so happens that mine is quite low . Any help from those in the know would be greatfully received. - super_poussinVirtuosoI just upload a new 2.5.3 version in my dropbox can you try it ?
- JohnNultyApprenticeMany thanks S-P. I like the increase in photo size capability  , but unfortunately synching still does appear to work. There are still no files in the ./galleries folder in piwigo, and I see no ./galleries folder in filezilla . Maybe there is no connection between piwigo and mysql? Do I really type in 'root' for the database box when setting piwigo up, or do I need to put in another local value? Just a thiught...
- super_poussinVirtuosowhat do you use for sync ? an extension ?
- super_poussinVirtuosocan you check what you have in /apps/piwigo/web/upload ?
