More on CPU specs of the ReadyNAS Pro
Hi all,
Does anyone know what FSB speeds the ReadyNAS Pro motherboard supports.
I have three "servers" that I'm trying to consolidate. I figured that the file server (which is actually the slowest machine) would be replaced by the NAS but I'm actually trying to merge some other services onto the box which much luck so far..
One feature I'm working on porting is my Tivo transcoder. Essentially I have a small system that pulls programs off my Tivo, transcodes them and uploads (via WiFi/ethernet) to my portable media player. It means when I get home my media player syncs with my now-playing list so I can watch TV on the train too and from work. Since I work miles and miles away, I don't have time to watch TV at home so it's the only way I can watch TV..
I have the package working on the NAS, and I'm working on the integration with the front end (like managing black-lists and so on). I'd like to bump the speed of the processor but obivously the newer energy efficient <65W intel chips all seem to be 1333MHz FSB. Is this supported on this NAS? I know the warranty is void with this type of fiddling, but that is a risk I'm happy to take.. I also understand you wouldn't recommend an upgrade like this, but I would really like to know if it were possible..
I'll make all the code (mplayer is the driver behind the transcoding) available to anyone if interested.. but it is important to realise this is a Series 1 Tivo and an Archos 705/605 media player, not a common combination..

- bzhpedroAspirantThank uou Chripa, I already found a link for a cooler (http://www.coolmod.com/product/3765/0/0 ... -Cobre.htm) but i do not find it anywhere in stock. That's why I am asking, and i do not want to do anything on the panel.
I would like to find a 3rd party fit to fit replacement ;-)
I am pretty sure it does not exist, but I will never know if I do not ask - chirpaLuminaryThat one may fit, need to measure height in the chassis. Stick a paperclip through the vent holes on the Pro, to the existing heatsink, see how much space is still available.
- bzhpedroAspirantI will check when I get home.
Thank you chirpa - soremaniacAspirant

I don't know, but i think this will not work, becouse the fan on the ReadyNAS is fixed to the Board with scrus, the fan on the pic has some kind of clip like the orginal intel fan's and i cut not mout this fan with these "clip-system" to the readynas board.

i may be wrong but, then tell me how... - bzhpedroAspirantYou just have to remove the clip system and put the screws instead.
I have already done that on another heatsink - soremaniacAspirantOkay Thanx :D
Is a Org. Intel Fan better than the one that is "Build In" from Netgear? - Is there a certain revision Q6600 that if likes better (SL9UM or SLACR)?
From what I read, the newer SLACR runs cooler so if it's compatible I'd like to run that one.
Also, for those running a Q6600 what cooler works the best without modding the case?
Thanks! - soremaniacAspirant

Okay how i see the Difference, or where are they marked as "SLACR"? soremaniac wrote:

It's printed on the top CPU.
Also the SL9UM is a 105W chip and the SLACR is 95W.- sander11AspirantMy what an interesting thread, as usual Chirpa makes me reassess my opinion of Ewoks, as I have an unfortunate prejudice since a nasty encounter in 1983.
I'm primarily interested in hardware virtualization and running as cool as possible to prolong the life the NAS/disks.
I'm not clear if the E6600 SL9ZL or E7400 SLGW3 would be better in this regard. I'm not running anything really cpu intensive (occasional spikes) I'm just hoping it will make my virtual machine more responsive.
TIA.
