Sort order for album photos
Having imported a folder, I can't work out the sort order for the photos, it seems completely random. I have photos taken a couple of minutes apart that are rows away from each other. I would have thought that it at least should show them in photo exif date order or file time order if there is no preference option.
Anyone konw?

- minervaAspirantYou can sort photos in an album by File Name, OR Click time, OR Title.
Click Manage Tab, select 'Sort' option from Manage pull down menu and choose the order in which you would like to see the photos.

I can't find any Manage Tab. Do you mean the "Manage ReadyNAS Photos II" button in the installed add on or having logged in as my primary photographer somewhere. Having logged in I can see my albums and I have Settings. Contact, Logout options in top right corner and Create new album just below that.
Settings gives me Manage photographers and Preferences pull down menus and in preferences there are no sort related options.
Where am I going wrong?
Antony - yoh-dahGuideIt's sorting based on upload order. You can typically pre-sort during the upload process (sort by date, filename, etc). Usually, your camera will save the photos in ascending order, so sorting by filename usually will match the Exif timestamp.

This doesn't seem right. I simply pointed the import to a folder tree which contained photos in multiple directories. On directory contained the following few photos from 201 photos in total
23/06/2002 11:49 PM 72,200 PICT0001.JPG
30/06/2002 12:37 AM 75,767 PICT0002.JPG
30/06/2002 12:37 AM 75,037 PICT0003.JPG
03/07/2002 02:44 PM 165,582 PICT0004.JPG
07/07/2002 12:44 AM 137,416 PICT0007.JPG
07/07/2002 12:45 AM 166,301 PICT0008.JPG
....
23/07/2002 08:48 PM 135,257 PICT0223.JPG
23/07/2002 08:48 PM 137,939 PICT0224.JPG
The Exif dates match the file dates, yet these are completely random in the album view.
The album is useless like this as everything is totally out of order. How can this be fixed?
Cheers

Can you do a quick check on a test album and try several photos? Make sure the upload window has files sorted by filename. - adb1Aspirant

Not sure what you mean by the upload window sorted by filename...
I am using the FrontView "Manage ReadyNas Photos II" Add on button and in the Photographer Menu there is the option headedYou can import photos from folders on this ReadyNAS. When "Single Album Mode" option is checked, then selected folder becomes an album. If the option is not checked, then sub folder under the selected folders becomes multiple albums.
I then select a share, and Folder to import from, which opens up the folder view of my selected share. Choose a folder and go - there's nothing to chose any sort order - adb1Aspirant

With the proviso that this is using Import, NOT upload...
I took 31 photos from a particular folder ranging in date from 23/Jun/2002-->9/Jul/2002 with file names PICT0001 to PICT0039 (few missing names) and then IMPORTed them to a new album.
Picture order shown in the album is (going across top row of 6 pics)
PICT0027 - 06 Jul 2002/8:11:17PM
PICT0012 - 06 Jul 2002/5:46:55PM
PICT0034 - 06 Jul 2002/8:24:41PM
PICT0033 - 06 Jul 2002/8:24:37PM
PICT0026 - 06 Jul 2002/6:33:25PM
PICT0032 - 06 Jul 2002/8:24:32PM
PICT0009 - 06 Jul 2002/5:46:14PM
PICT0037 - 06 Jul 2002/8:26:14PM
PICT0021 - 06 Jul 2002/6:30:13PM
PICT0002 - 29 Jun 2002/5:37:07PM
PICT0017 - 06 Jul 2002/5:49:23PM
and so on. Very simple to reproduce.
I know this is version 1.0, but I understand there's a sort order option in the original Photos, so how can this essential feature be missing in Photos II. - adb1AspirantTried a few things on the original 31 photos from the above test
Test 1
1. Created new album
2. Select Browse
3. Photos sorted by filename.
4. Mark first, Mark to last (file names shown in random order in filename box)
5. Press Open
6. Files shown in Photos Uploader window in file name order (which also implies Exif date and file date)
Press Upload
Result: All photos in correct order
Test 2
1. Changed PICT0021 to be file date 2000/01/02-12:00
2. Changed PICT0022 to be file date 2000/01/02-11:50
3. Changed PICT0002 to be file date 2010/01/01-13:00
4. Created new album
5. Select Browse
6. Photos sorted by filename.
7. Mark first, Mark to last (file names shown in random order in filename box)
8. Press Open
9. Files shown in Photos Uploader window in file name order (which also implies Exif date, but not file date)
Press Upload
Result: All photos in correct order
Test 3
1. Using same date changed files as in test 2
2. Created new album
3. Select Browse
4. Photos sorted by date, oldest first
5. Mark first, Mark to last (file names shown in random order in filename box)
6. Press Open
7. Files shown in Photos Uploader window in file DATE order
Press Upload
Result: All photos in FILE DATE order.
So, it seems the upload using making a fixed sort order based on file date in this case and as a general rule is using the sort order from the file selection box.
This seems to be a very odd way to do things. Why does it not use Exif by default rather than file date. It's much easier to muck up a file date than the Exif date. I don't know about you, but over the last 14 years, I have digital images that have travelled and been copied many times through various file and operating systems. My file dates are not all perfect!
Secondly the sort order should be something that can be changed at the album view time, in addition it must be possible to reorder individual photos in the album view order once the album is complete. - yoh-dahGuideWe are planning to add an option to sort by Exif timestamp after the photos are loaded.
- NickSchweitzerAspirantI'm running into the exact same problem with the sorting being "random" when I imported photos from an existing share on my Ready NAS. I would really appreciate a way to sort them by File Name as well as by EXIF. It is extremely annoying. Many thanks!
