access problem - lost network connection

hi the almighty forum, I hope you can help me out!
I have readynas DUO, 3 years od. Just a while ago after I came back from a short vacation, i could not get access to this network drive, neither could the RAIDar find it.

today I decided to try it again, without any luck. I noticed that the indicator LED is off on the router's network port that is connected to the Readynas. i tried different cable, different port, with the same result. basically, this tells me that the network port on readynas is bad!

questions: 1) is this hardware problem or software problem? any possible to fix it?
2) what other things I can try to troubleshoot?
3) would netgear provide any support on this?

best regards

  • it gets a little more weird. when I turned it off and restarted it this time, there are no lights on the front panel, only the fan noise (fan is running)! i had to unplug the power cable. seems like the machine can not restart :((((((

    Not the best news.

Try powering down, removing the drives, and powering up. If Raidar can't find the NAS (with "no disks detected"), then it is a the chassis hardware. Most likely that is the case, but the disk removal rules out any possibility of something strange in the boot partition.
  • indeed.

there is no lights at all (there was one quick blink of all indicators after power button push, then die away, including the power LED), only fan funning. as you suggested, i removed the two disks, tried, got the same result.
i dont know if there is a magic reset button or anything? it is hard to believe this would be a hardware issue.
  • I think it is almost certainly a hardware problem. You should probably open a support case, and sort out your repair and data recovery options.

There is a paper-clip reset button on the back of the ReadyNAS, but you need to be very careful if you use it with the disks inserted - you don't want to do a full reinstall, as that would erase your drives.
