Adding 6x 2TB disks to a Ultra 6....
Hi there,
Just bought myself a diskless Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6, I'm going to add (initially) two Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4 drives, and then a week later, a further 4 drives (same make and model).
Drives: http://www.ebuyer.com/237908-samsung-hd204ui-spinpoint-f4-2tb-hard-drive-sata-5400rpm-32mb-cache-hd204ui
Now my question is, is the drives are a 4K sector disk, how do I go about installing the additional drives? As I plan to initially install just 2 of the drives and then factory reset the device (to configure the disks, do I do this?) and then load the disks with data. Then 1 week or so later, add a further 4 drives into the readynas.
Now will the readynas work out that the 4 new disks are 4k sector disks and automatically configure them properly or will I have to factory reset the readynas again?
Also, there are two NICs on the back of the Ultra6, can I put them into teaming mode (my switch supports it) or is it just capable of redundency (by using both NICs)?
Thanks.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou won't need to factory reset the NAS. If you do initial setup (or last factory reset) on 4.2.12 or later (4.2.12 was first firmware for the Ultra 6) disks will all be 4k sector aligned.
Install your 2 disks, upgrade to latest RAIDiator and do a factory reset. This will give a clean setup on the latest firmware.
Then when you get them add your additional disks one at a time. You may wish to consider migrating to dual-redundancy: http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19044/~/converting-and-xraid2-system-to-dual-redundancy
The Ultra 6 does not support business features e.g. NIC Teaming/Failover. You can use both NICs though. - ranko1AspirantWill I need to reboot the3 NAS after inserting each disk so it recognises the extra space?
I guess I cant put all 4 extra disks in, in one go then :( - yoh-dahGuide

You can power down, add 4 disks, and power-on. The expansion on the 4 disks will take place on boot. If you want dual redundancy, add 3 disks first, and then enable the dual redundancy option in FrontView before adding the last disk. - yoh-dahGuide

Alternatively, if you don't have data on it, it'll be quite a bit faster just factory-defaulting with the 6 disks. - ranko1AspirantThanks, I might do just that TBH :)
I have a question about the dual NICs, can I connect both onto the same network? Would I gain anything from doing so?
If it doesnt have teaming or failover/load balancing out the box (as its non pro), can it be added via a 'community addon' it is after all only a Linux/*nix OS. :)
