Anybody using a 2TB+ USB Hard Drive for external backup?
I'm interested in finding a 2TB (or larger) external USB HD to use in conjunction with Frontview backup.
Curious if anyone can recommend a compatible solution--the official compatibility list for USB hard drives seems a bit dated.

- maynard1AspirantI've tried the 3TB drives but no dice on sparc... doesnt look like any of the new 2tb+ drives are supported....
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCorrect. Larger capacity drives than 2TB will only work on x86 ReadyNAS (e.g. NVX, Ultra, Pro). This is true for both internal and external disks.
- akira3dAspirantDoes this mean that there is absolutely no way that I can even partition such a drive to work directly off the NV+ USB port?
I just bought a Western Digital Elements 2.5 TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive and was hoping to use it to backup my NV+. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt's not going to work with the NV+. If recognised it'll likely be recognised as having less than 1TB of capacity.
- AEShellAspirantWe recently purchased a Lacie 2TB External USB Drive and as previously stated it is only being recognized as about 1TB by our ReadyNAS 1100 [X-Raid].
(Question?) Are there plans to fix this problem for the 1100 or are we out of luck when it comes to using external USB devices larger that 1TB? - Obiwan_ApprenticeI have a ReadyNAS 1100 running the latest firmware 4.1.8 and have plugged in and have working, a Seagate GoFlex Desk 2TB drive STAC2000100.

Also I should note that our IT guru here told me "The reason why only 1Tb of 2Tb drive is recognized is because the ReadyNAS uses a Linux type file system and this particular implementation only supports a 1Tb partition. We may have to create two 1Tb partitions to use the space fully." I'm not sure but I'm thinking that when we initially set up our ReadyNAS 1100 there was an format option and we chose to use a Linux type file system. Not sure though it has been a while and I'm not very knowledgeable about such things so I will defer to our IT guy. Thanks for the response though -Eric - wheelman1AspirantIt will depend on your ReadyNAS model I would assume.
I currently am using a 2TB external drive using a NexStar 3 (USB 2 + eSATA) enclosure (using the USB 2 port with the ReadyNAS Duo). The drive in the enclosure is a Seagate ST ST32000542AS. However I've used several different smaller drives in these enclosures over time and all have worked with the Duo and this enclosure.
Regards. - captainhaddockAspirantI am using a Buffalo Drivestation / 2TB / USB2 External Hard Disk Drive (http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/19511004/-/Product.html) to backup my Duo, just plugged it into the front port and kicked off the backup.
Was going really well (did about 350GB) until I encountered a bad block or two on my internal disks and the Duo performed a SATA reset on them. Completed the backup once that was sorted. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredSounds like the GoFlex disk was formatted using GPT. You need to format it with the MBR partitioning scheme.
