APC Back-UPS XS-1500 problems
I bought this UPS this afternoon because it's on the hardware compatibility list - but after connecting it to my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus (version 4.2.20), the NAS continuously reboots.
I've tried disconnecting the UPS and it has made no difference - it reboots continuously.
RAIDar shows the UPS status correctly - if the UPS is plugged in then RAIDar show that it's connected, if I unplug the UPS then RAIDar indicates no UPS present via the green "led" indicator.
Since it keeps rebooting with the UPS connected, I disconnected the UPS - but the NAS keeps rebooting.
When I'm fast enough or lucky enough to log in during the bootup/shutdown cycles, RAIDiator starts as shows the UPS as connected via its little green "led" status light but then the light goes out and the system reboots. I can select different pages in RAIDiator unless I go to the System Power page - selecting the Power page hangs the ReadyNAS until it reboots.
So, any ideas how to escape this - other than doing a FACTORY reset and losing all the data?

- HERBIEOAspirantTry unplugging power cord and leave it for a couple of minutes, if that dont work maybe try OS reinstall first as that will not destroy data.
OS reinstall. Reinstalls the firmware from the system’s internal flash to its disks. Use the
OS reinstall boot mode when the system crashes and corrupts some configuration files.
OS reinstall boot mode also resets some settings on your system, such as Internet
protocol settings and the administrator password, to defaults.
Edit: sorry my mistake was looking at your profile and see Duo now Corrected.
To perform an OS reinstall:
1. Power off your unit
2. Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
3. Press the Power button to power on the unit.
4. Continue to press the Reset button until the Power button LED, USB and backup status LED, disk 1 LED, and disk 2 LED are lit
5. Press the Backup button to scroll through the boot mode options.
OS reinstall Disk 2 LED is lit.
Press and release Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat's not the procedure for an OS Re-install on the Ultra 2 Plus. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu#ultra_2_ultra_2_plus_pro_2_duo_v2
You may wish to open a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case and edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.
Tech support may need to remotely login to your system to look for a reason why the NAS is rebooting endlessly and check to see that the BIOS is up to date. - I solved the problem by doing a FACTORY reset and updating the OS from 4.2.20 to 4.2.21. I then rsynced the disk to the system to reload all of the shares. Plugging the UPS into the system after the upgrade and reboot picked up the UPS immediately. The XS-1500 does work.
FYI - the only thing that I have done differently this time is that I have not entered any times in the System:Power "Power Timer" option for this system. I had entered some times to sleep before having the problem but I had unchecked the "Enable Power Timer" box the day before adding the UPS so that I could work on the system. The UPS was first connected to the system while the Power Timer would have powered the system off - IF it had been enabled but it definitely was NOT ENABLED when this problem occurred.
Maybe it would be smarter to just spin the disks down and leave the system powered up.
PS - this NAS is so much faster than the Duo that I have at home. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredEdmundcramp can you download your logs (Status > Logs > Download all logs), extract the zip contents and post the contents of bios_ver.log?
