Frustrating, but in the scheme of things...
I have finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new NAS. I purchased a ReadyNAS Pro Business 5+ years ago and it's still running, although the fans start spinning at over 2K rpm more often than they used to. I've been told that this might be a sign that it's on its last legs. I contacted Netgear about it and they said it was out of warranty and I was on my own. As disappointing as that was, I understand it. I did get 5+ good years with the product and it is still running: Not bad for much of today's technology.
Frustrating: Today I went to Netgear's online chat to ask some questions about the 516 and after being in the queue for 23 minutes, going from number 11 to number 2, I was told that "There are no agents available to chat with you right now. Please try again later." When I clicked on the button labeled "Request Email Response" it took me nowhere.
I'm still hopeful that I can get these answers here while I compare the ReadyNAS 516 to the Synology. I've not heard very good things about the Synology support people either, by the way. (In fact, I can't believe the vitriol of some of the people posting about their experiences with Synology support.)
Questions:
Thanks in advance for your help.

Questions:
1. Does the ReadyNAS still come with a 5-year warranty?
2. Can I use my old ReadyNAS Pro Business for backup as a ReadyNAS Replicate unit?
3. Will the ReadyNAS 516 permit me to have dual redundancy? I think that's RAID6 with two redundant drives?
4. If I use ReadyNAS Remote how secure is the connection? Is the data sent between machines encrypted? If not, will it work while I use a VPN?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The RN516 does have a 5-year hardware warranty. Check these links:

I have not yet tried this, but I think its possible that you could use your old ReadyNAS Pro Business unit as a Replicate backup of the RN516.Blues wrote: Will the ReadyNAS 516 permit me to have dual redundancy? I think that's RAID6 with two redundant drives?
Yes, RN516 supports dual redundancy.Blues wrote: If I use ReadyNAS Remote how secure is the connection? Is the data sent between machines encrypted? If not, will it work while I use a VPN?
ReadyCloud replaces the ReadyNAS Remote on the ReadyNAS OS 6 models like RN516 using FW v6.2.x.
On your old ReadyNAS Pro Business unit, ReadyNAS Remote is still supported.
Regarding encryption on ReadyNAS Remote, kindly read the ReadyNAS Remote-White Paper on this link:

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can certainly use frontview's backup to back up RN516 share to your pro.
If there turn out to be issues with replicate, you can also install OS6 on the pro. That's not supported by netgear, but there's a lot of information here on how to do it.
If you are willing to tinker, you can also replace the fan in the pro. Cleaning it might also help. - Blues11LuminaryOne of your colleagues PMed me suggesting doing a fan replacement too.
I'm not against the idea, but when I last posted here about replacing the power supply/fan, I could not figure out how to do it. The web images of the replacement unit didn't make sense when I examined my RNP: The on-off switch and the power cord socket were on the wrong side of the replacement unit.
Here's the link to the post: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=77520 - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserJust to clarify - I don't work for Netgear.
There are three fans in the pro - the CPU, the system fan, and the fan built into the power supply. Your link is on replacing the power supply. Replacing the system fan is easier - there's a link here:https://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=72754&p=404420
Which fan is the problem?
