- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLooks like disk 2 is bad. Do you have a backup?
- SurplusGadgetsAspirantThanks mdgm for the help last night. It appears it is not the disk, which does have reallocation errors, but the memory. This would better explain the corruption of the btrfs whole volume. And the corruption I was still investigating when I recreated the filestore after upgrading to all 4TB disks earlier this year. Boot Menu memory diagnostics is picking up many memory errors. Sure wish the user could get into the system like you can in Diagnostic mode to do self evals. Anyway, thanks for the help and the attempt to see if data could be saved. Odd that the issue took a firmware upgrade to present itself more dramatically. FYI, is there a better way to see memory results than the front panel? Neither 4.3.8 nor 6.0 RAIDar detect the device in this mode. And SSH and HTTP are not enabled, as expected. Disktest on the front panel seemed to progressing. But when I came back hours later, it no longer showed a percentage and simply listed "Testing Disks" -- as did RAIDar (both versions). This never went away as much as 12 hours later. So never really got results for that Boot Menu test either.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI don't think you can view the memory test progress over your network. The front panel is the way to view the progress/results.
The memory issues probably explain why the disk test didn't complete if it hung. The results for that test are in the SMART extended test history for the disk which you can check using SSH. - Kardano1GuideI updated 2x RN102, 1 RN104, 1 RN314. On all RN102 and RN314 units with 6.2.4 FW (and AV plus and SMB plus) IF antivirus definition update fail (log: System: Antivirus scanner definition file update failed. (error code: 5)) it causes complete shutdown antivirus function. It is necessary personally log on and switch ON antivirus through the admin interface to restore it's function. In summary page is showing geen dot and last AV definition version, BUT NOT that AV is disabled! When you check it - click on AV definition version(offer you enable AV, box is not checked) or in settings tab (Antivirus is without green bar indicating it is disabled). If you open Antivirus plus it is showing correct that AV IS disabled. With older FW versions after update of AV definitions failed, antivirus stays ON and try update later again. I think that old way is correct. With new settings (AV turn off itself) is AV not usable without permanent supervision over NAS.
EDIT - i moved defrag problem with RN104 to new thread (thanks StephenB for advice)

- mrQQApprenticeI really miss easier snapshot management + configurable pruning options (age, count, etc)
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe oldest automatic snapshots will be automatically pruned when the volume usage exceeds 95%.
- twjonesAspirantHappy with the overall performance boost, coming from a RN Duo with a much older OS. A bummer I could not just switch disks from the old to the new NAS. Enjoying many aspects of the GUI, but APPALLED at the hoops one must jump through to backup to a USB device. This was a NO-BRAINER with the ReadyNAS Duo. As mentioned in other parts of the forum, apparently a USB backup cannot be created unless a backup to a local folder is created, then the path edited. As if no-one has ever thought of backing up a NAS to a USB device?
Also, backups of my largest share (music files) ALWAYS fail. It appears that most if not all data is copied onto the USB drive (a 2TB WD), but OS 6.2.4 report a failure each time.
So weeks after buying my new RN314, two new disks, installing and configuring the NAS, reformatting all drives, transferring data (which failed multiple times), etcetera, I STILL DO NOT have a backup of my files. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is a fix for the issue with creating USB backup jobs in the next release.
- stoney066AspirantI have a 316, ever since upgrading to 6.2.4 the lights on my unit stay on (not the lcd panel, just the purple netgear logo and the circle w/arrows). Rebooting the unit turns the lights off for a while but eventually they come back on all the time.
Other than that 6.2.4 has been great, finally able to stream music from itunes ;)
