Have to reboot ReadyNAS to use USB hard disk?
I have connected a Tandberg QuikStor RDX USB3+ hard disk enclosure with 2TB hard disk to my ReadyNAS Duo v2.
In order for the RDX to appear as a USB share, I have to reboot the ReadyNAS first. When I eject the disk from the enclosure or use the eject button in the dashboard, I have to reboot the ReadyNAS to use the enclosure again.
But why? Surely that defeats the object of USB which is meant to be a plug-n-play technology?
Is this a limitation of the ReadyNAS Duo v2 or the OS?
Would I encounter the same issue if I upgraded the ReadyNAS to the latest model?

- NhellieVirtuosoWhat FW version are you running?
- davidencoAspirantLatest in both devices. The ReadyNAS has 5.3.11 installed.
- NhellieVirtuosoDo you have it on FAT32 or NTFS format?
- RXLuminary@davidenco:
Did you connect your Tandberg QuikStor RDX USB3+ hard disk enclosure with 2TB hard disk to either of the USB 3.0 ports of your Duov2 which is located at the rear panel?
Does same problem occurs if you connect it to the USB2.0 port at the front panel?
Just to further isolate the problem, do you have another external USB drive and check if same problem will occur whether its connected to either USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports of your NAS? - davidencoAspirantDisk is formatted to NTFS.
The RDX behaves in the same way whether it's connected to the rear ports or the front port.
Connecting a USB SD card to the front port works first time without a reboot.
Will the RDX work with a newer model, perhaps one which uses the latest OS/Kernel? - davidencoAspirantAnyone?
Is there anything I can do to the current ReadyNAS, perhaps something via SSH, which will make it work without having to reboot everytime? - NhellieVirtuosoIt might be the size of the HDD that you are using (might be too big). Previous USB HDDs that are compatible to the Duov2 are barely 500GB so I'm thinking the unit might be having a hard time detecting you 2 TB right away without rebooting. My best bet is to contact support so they can report it to thier engineering have them look at your unit.
try the online support:

there is a beta FW, but does not have any related fixes for the issue you are having:
