HD WD 3Tb not accepted
Greetings,
So I have a recent WD 3 TB Green Sata 64MB model 30EZRX obviously it is not in the HCL for my ReadyNas 104 (4 bays). The NAS correctly identifies the HD, it is clickable in the web admin interface, I can complete the FORMAT command, it does something for about10 secs, then nothing. The drive shows black in color with no green light on the graphic representation of the NAS. I currently have two 4TB WD red HDs in slot 1&2, I tried moving the 3 TB to slot 3 and 4 with same result. As I am just finishing my initial set up (New NAS, I even did a full re-initialization of the entire thing - factory reset with the 3 drives inserted. Still not working.
Is there a way I can make this work, or it is simply not possible if the HD is not on the HCL. It would be so silly to go have to buy another HD when I have a perfectly working one...
Sytem info
iMac 2.8Ghz Intel Core I7, OSX 10.11.3
The 3TB is formated OS X Extended Journaled with a partition map of Master Boot Record
ReadyNas 104 6.4.2, XRaid currently in Raid1
Thanks

What do the SMART stats of the disk look like?

Thks for quick reply,
How do I check? in Disk utility on the Mac it only shows SMART status: not Supported.

With the disk inserted in the NAS you could hover or the disk in RAIDar or better yet download the logs zip file and look in that.
How is the disk connected to your Mac? Is it in an internal sata slot or have you connected it e.g. via USB? It's possible SMART commands may not work with some USB enclosures.

You can't expand a volume consisting of 4TB drives by adding a smaller 3TB drive. You can disable X-RAID and create a new volume on the 3TB drive, but you cannot add a smaller drive to an existing RAID array.

I noticed that mistake also, but he said he also tried a factory reset (which of course should have worked).

Thank you both for looking into this.
Indeed I after my initial fail, I did a complete factory reset, the only thing is I can't remember if I did the reset with only the 4TB X 2 and then added the 3TB or if I did it with the 3 drive in there.
I did however consult the HD placement "simulator" allowing you to try various configuration online and did not get any flags.
Did the log yield anything valid?
Thanks again...
