HP Officejet 8500 "network filling" ready NAS Duo problem.
Hello,
I got the above OfficeJet 8500, everything ...accept the "network filling" or scanning to the network folder works fine. Every time, I am trying to scan to network folder the printer creates partial .PDF document about 17KB of size but never saves it in full, instead the printer hangs and needs to be restarted. I can save the same document if I scan it through PC HP Solution Center (of course I need to be sitting behind the PC :slap: ) , but that defeats the purpose of the function button on the printer itself (Network filling), which would be pretty otherwise, but unfortunately that is not the case.
And after struggling and calling HP and getting theirs number "1" Indian/Philippines customer service on the phone which called me every time we scheduled call back (right, nobody called me, don't be mistaken  ) I started thinking ....maybe it could be Netgear's Ready NAS itself. So I read theirs forums and bingo, I found few topics about the network scanning problem same which I have. And was deeply wondering if there are or will be any fixes/updates or addons to solve this issue. I have the latest version of Radiator 4.15, in cas someone would wonder if I done the updates. The share folder on Ready NAS I created has public access, I got no firewall, windows XP built one, also my OS is Windows XP Pro. If anyone want more details I will be more then happy to provide them.
Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with both the HP printer and Ready NAS Duo made by Netgear....if only tha "network scanning" could work
Thank you very much for comments or suggestions, both will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards, Peter.

- Yacht_RockedAspirantPlease see thread entitled "Duo compatibility with Officejet network scanning?", and consider opening a tech support case referencing that thread and case # contained therein. With pallets of these printers at every Costco, the issue is only going to get bigger. Thanks.
- petas_70AspirantI did called Netgear support, but I was told that mine Ready NAS waranty expired and I have to pay $75 to get tech support. Maybe they did not understand me or it is just $75 they want ... I am not entirely sure, but what am I sure about is the fact, that I am not paying that money to get tech support, because like you said, Costco is full of these printers and the issue with the network scanning will get bigger if someone will not create some sort of update or just patch.
But thanks for reading the post.
Peter - petas_70AspirantOk, I got reference # for my problem with Ready NAS Duo/ HP 8500. It is #9290324. I am just waiting for somebody to call me or let me know that they actually read it. I had to log in to Netgear online and create the ticket right there.
Update: Just got generic email, saying that they accepted the ticket, that is about it. I will post every thing and every update until we have this solved  I am sure it is just security issue or other minor flaw. And I am confident that Netgear support and tech. engineers will do theirs best, because they are the best. - Yacht_RockedAspirantThis is the sad resolution email I got today. NETGEAR is missing the boat on this issue, which is only going to get worse as the HP Officejet Pro 8500 is a very hotselling device (see latest Amazon rankings) and there are pallets of them at Best Buy, Costco, Office Depot, etc. There's nothing in any Netgear marketing literature to make the buyer aware that this function is NOT supported...which is kind of like buying a car and then finding out that you can't drive it to Safeway but you can drive it to any other grocery store. What???

Dear Mr. _______
Thank you for choosing NETGEAR, my name is V_____ from NETGEAR 2nd level Technical Support. I will be your support engineer.
I regret to say but Network Filing or Scan to Network is not supported. I just got an update from one of our product engineers and they said that ReadyNAS are not really designed for that task. This is the reason why we do not have fixes or future software updates regarding your issue.
Please accept our apology for the inconvenience you have experienced.
Thanks again for choosing NETGEAR. Have a great day!
Sincerely,
V__________ - petas_70AspirantDoes anybody else has he same problem with HP printers with such function as the "scanning to network folder" ?
- trifygriAspirantI made some tests today:
1) ReadyNAS NV+ , firmware 4.1.5 => same problem as Duo. HP 8500 does not finish, needs reset.
2) iomega StoreCenter ix2 (Duo like device) => 8500 scan saved to smb share without problem
3) ReadyNAS Pro , firmware 4.2.5 => 8500 scan saved to smb share without problem
Conclusion => Netgear has to fix their firmware 4.1.5
hope this helps - greispeTutorJust finished reading this thread and as another HP 8500 Pro user, I too am disappointed it doesn't work on my ReadyNAS NV+. I have the exact same issue. Hopefully it will be looked at for the next firmware upgrade because as you indicated, this is a becoming a very popular device.
My current "workaround" for network scanning and faxing from the device is to use the shared folder on one of my networked PCs, but of course that means I have to have another system running. - beurnzAspirantSo it seems that more than a year later, Netgear still has not gotten its act together on this issue. I juste spent a half-day trying to troubleshoot this issue, just to find this last post.
Did someone have any more luck that me?
 - PapaBear1ApprenticeIn all of this, no one has stated whether the particular printer is connected via ethernet or wireless to the network. They also do not state whether they have tried to use NAS shares that have been mapped in Windows so use a drive letter rather than the normal network path.
It would be interesting to find more details in this case, but it appears that some with the problem are no longer posting.
I have an Officejet 8500 connected to my router with ethernet cable, and have done scanning with it, but always to the PC next to it. I just find it easier to scan and review on the PC and then move the file to the NAS. Since one member had no problems with a Pro, and I am now on an NVX, I may have to restart my NV+ to attempt to duplicate the problem. - beurnzAspirantOK,
#1 - Note to PapaBear: The printer is connected wirelessly to the network. Also, as with most others experiencing this issue, I have tried the printer document filing to a Windows share on my PC and it works fine.
#2 - I was contacted by NETGEAR support which directed me to the following thread http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-faxing-and-copying/OfficeJet-8500-Wireless-scan-to-folder-on-an-Readynas-NV/td-p/60403/page/2
and the following addon http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/4.1/Toggle_OfficeJet_Scan_Support_1.0.bin
I diligently read the thread and first created a new share with the name HP-Documents. Then I tried applying the addon but I get the following message "Invalid checksum detected in the update file. Update aborted".
I currently have a ReadyNAS Duo with DAIDiator 4.1.6[1.00a043]
When try adding the addon, I first get this, which seems OK:
"The firmware update or Add-on image is valid. Click Perform System Update if you wish to install the
image now.
