Laptop
I want to change my desktop and laptop. Also I want to avoid the hassle of trying to keep both up-to-date with the same information. Could I use a laptop only and then connect wirelessly to a NetGear 4TB ReadyNAS Ultra 2 for my stored information, backups, etc.

- Yes. If you do lots of heavy photo editing or video editing you might want to copy the files locally first but for general files it'll be no problem.
- PapaBear1ApprenticeI faced that situtaion 4 years ago with two desktops and a laptop. It seemed like every time I needed a file it was on some other machine. I would have to go search it out and then resort to sneaker net to transfer the file (flash drive hand carried from one PC to the other). I got my first ReadyNAS, and set it up the way it was really intended as a networked file server. All of my data is on the network with none on a PC. It took me a while to get my second one, and now I have nightly automatic backups from one NAS to the other via rsync.
A single unit can serve as a backup, but, it really shines when used as a file server. You never have to wonder which machine has your files, they are all in one place, and accessible from every PC. You can limit access by sign on if desired. - kasumaAspirantThank you both for your very helpful replies.
