NV+ Died again
Hey Guys,
My beloved NV+'s Power Supply went with a "POP" at the weekend. Just a year after replacement under the replacement scheme for the previous one. I have logged a support ticket but am pretty sure I'll get nothing. Looking at purchasing a new Power Supply, the prices are coming in at about £90 for a replacement. It would cost £160 ish for an NV+ v 2 without disks. My question is, if I purchase an NV+ v 2 and put my original 4 disks in there, would the raid 5 configuration be retained or would all data be lost ? If it wont work, any ideas on what I could do to get my data off .. AFAIK, the raid is fully intact and the disks themselves were operating happily so other than a disk check on boot, all should be ok.
Appreciate your advice in advance.
Regards

- PapaBear1ApprenticeYou cannot move your array intact to a V2 or X-86 based ReadyNAS. They use different formats. The only way to keep your array intact would be to move it to another NV+ (v1) or to replace your power supply.
Of course if you have a current and complete backup of all your data (of course you do) you can move them to a V2, perform a factory reset wiping the disks, establishing a new array and then restoring your data from the backup.
Some members moving from the NV+ (v1) to the NV+ v2 are not pleased with them because the feature set is not as robust and it has the new Frontview version which takes some getting used to. It does have support for NFS and rsync with the latest release of Frontview 5.3.5, but does not have a printer driver which the v1 did.
The NV+ v2 is faster than the v1, but another member on here moved from the v2 to the Ultra 4 and really liked it much better as it is faster than either of them. But either way, if you do not have a backup, you will need to replace the PSU to gain access to your data. - m0nk666AspirantThanks v much for your reply PapaBear. I fully appreciate the backup and all my critical data is of course backed up!!! Its mainly my media section which consisted of Kids TV Shows and my Ripped DVD's. So not a disaster, more of an inconvenience. :)
Just wondered if there was any other method of getting access to the data or an easy migration strategy!!
Kind Regards
m0nk666 - PapaBear1ApprenticeThere is a way to read the disks, but that works best with a two drive mirroring RAID array where all the data is on one disk. When I first upgraded to a new ReadyNAS (NVX), I used my old NV+ as a backup unit. You may want to consider replacing the PSU and then work on acquiring a newer ReadyNAS and drives. It is very nice having a backup run every night of the entire volume.
- ReadySECUREApprenticeI reviewed the online case you created and we are sending you a new power supply. Part of your ReadyNAS 5 year warranty, we are sending you a replacement PSU.
