Odd issue with Duo and LAN port

A client moved to a new office taking his Duo with him. He tried to connect to the LAN in the new office and the LAN port on the Duo would not show any signs of connectivity (no lights/LEDs at all at jack on rear of Duo). We tried 3 ports in the office and none would light up the LEDs on the rear. Tried different Cat5e cables, but still nothing.

I'm not talking about Frontview connectivity, the LAN port on the rear of the NAS did not show ANY signs of connectivity.

On these same LAN ports in the office I tried several other devices and all connected OK. At the other end of the LAN cable are 2x Netgear GS116 Gigabit switches. Cables in office are all Cat5e and length is 100 feet or less. Office is wired for Gigabit and using my basic analyzer tool the ports checked out OK.

Then tried to connect the Duo directly to 3 different switches and it connected OK.

Any idea why the Duo had trouble seeing the LAN? For now we've worked around the issue by using a switch in between the wall jack, but it sure seems weird.....

What version of RAIDiator is on the unit?

Have you tried an OS Re-install?: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu

If that still doesn't fix it, if you power down the NAS and then boot it into tech support mode do any of the LAN port LEDs light up and is it seen in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)? Note it may take a few minutes or so before it shows. Don't leave it in tech support mode of course.

What about if you boot the disk normally with no disks installed?

4.1.7 installed. Port lights are connected to hardware I believe. RAIDIATOR has nothing to do with it. Think about the LAN ports on your PC. They are normally lit up with the system powered off (no OS).

I believe this is a hardware incompatibility problem. Odd thing is that at the other end of the cable is a GS116 Netgear Gigabit switch. One would think they'd make their NAS work with their own switch....

You might want to contact NetGear tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) to see if they've had any other reports of a similar issue with the switch.

If you need to get a new switch I'd recommend getting one that supports IPv6.

Can you take the duo into the switch room, and try connecting it directly to the office switch port? I realize that the office port checks out ok on your tester, am just thinking that test would eliminate any possibility of something subtle with the wiring.

I did and it works OK directly connected to switch port using 6 foot cable.

Building cable checks out OK and works just fine with about 6 other devices I tried. Also checks out OK with my cable tester. The Readynas definitely doesn't like something with this office wiring. For now I have a switch in between which seems to have worked around whatever issue there is.
