- chirpaLuminaryNot a lot different.
You can compare the Pro Pioneer to the Ultra 6 Plus on the comparison chart: http://www.readynas.com/?p=1415
The Pro Business Edition (on the Business chart) has more software features for business use (SNMP, Active Directory, etc). - Cain1AspirantSo not much difference?? I want to do some streaming video around the house, so I guess the Ultra Plus will be good for me?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes. Uses same fast CPU as Pro Pioneer

The Ultra Plus can probably do 15+ HD streams for you simultaneously. - Cain1AspirantThx guys!
- regnavAspirantI could use some help in deciding on the ultra 6 plus or the pro 6. I haven't been on the forums in over 18 months, so forgive me if my information is dated.
I currently have a NV that is 97% full. I would like to migrate all the data from the NV to the plus/pro. (I assume that I will have to drag and drop??) Once completed, I would like to back up the pro/plus via snapshot. Next, I would like to use the NV as the backup target for the pro/plus and be able to 'land' or 'replicate' the snaps onto the NV. The NV will stay local for about 3 months and then will move to another location for DR (no vpn, internet only)
I do want all the software functionality that the ultra plus offers, but need snap, ftp, performance that the pro offers.
A few questions:
Can I get all the software/add-on’s that are offered for the plus on the pro as well?
Is it possible to take snaps on the plus/pro and 'land' them on the NV?
Thanks in advance for your comments and direction!

The Ultra series does not provide snapshots, so you'll need to use the business feature set of the Pro series to get that. The Pro supports all the software add-ons that run on x86, so you're good there. And you can take snapshots on the Pro and rsync it across to the NV. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDon't drag and drop files across as this will copy it via your computer. Use Frontview backup jobs to move your data across to the Pro 6. You can take a snapshot and backup sharename-snap rather than sharename.
- regnavAspirantyoh-dah/mdgm thanks for the information. So I will be able to run Orb, ReadyDLNA, Skifta etc.? I noticed that you called the ultra x86. Is the pro based on intel processor as well?
If I am understanding you correctly, I will have to snap each volume on the pro, and then run a backup job of those snaps to the NV. Is there a way to just schedule the snaps and after the snap is comlete, have those snaps replicate over to the NV?
Is there additional software that I will have to purchase to snap and replicate? - yoh-dahGuide

Yes, all the latest ReadyNAS devices are x86-based.If I am understanding you correctly, I will have to snap each volume on the pro, and then run a backup job of those snaps to the NV. Is there a way to just schedule the snaps and after the snap is comlete, have those snaps replicate over to the NV?
Running backups on the snapshots is the generally preferred way to avoid inconsistency from changing data during the snapshot. And you can schedule the backups off the snapshots to the NV.Is there additional software that I will have to purchase to snap and replicate?
Snapshot does not require an additional purchase, but you'll need to purchase a business-class ReadyNAS (i.e. Pro Series). If you want real replication (see http://www.readynas.com/replicate), there is a cost associated with purchasing a key for ReadyNAS Replicate.
