ReadyNAS 200 series
Hi,
I'm really keen to get a readynas 200 series. It said that the device would be available at the end of January, its still "coming soon".
Is there any information regarding when it might be generally available.
Thanks
James

- jameswalmsleyAspirantI can confirm that the RN204 does currently not do on-the-fly transcoding.
However as an embedded developer myself, I'm sure that the Cortex-A15 processor would be capable of at-least doing some transcoding.
My impression of the Plex team leaves me to think that they don't have that high an opinion of ARM, and so aren't really looking into this.
Although I can assure you that there are high-end ARM processors out there doing transcoding in production systems. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTranscoding is not available.
- ZBoaterAspirantHmmm. Then they should fix the data sheet and box. I'm glad I didn't buy these needing that feature.

We have a new box already prepared and we will fix the datasheet. - ZBoaterAspirant

Question: I was able to download the Plex server app and transcoding was an option. I haven't played more with it since I am still doing my initial copy of data, but are we sure the RN202 can't to transcoding? I imagine the Plex server app might need to be updated to detect the RN202 and disable that? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhere did you download the Plex app from? Using the NAS web admin UI, from apps.readynas.com or from plex.tv ?

From the NAS web admin UI. I downloaded the ARM version from plex.tv but it was the same version that the NAS web admin UI installed, so I did not install it manually.
Pretty slick app. - jameswalmsleyAspirant

how long does it take to rebuild the array ? can you tell how much was the rn204 ?
thanks
Just to update, looked back in the logs, and saw it took 12 hours to rebuild the raid.
I have 2 6TB WD drives currently installed.
Is that good or bad? It seems like a reasonable speed to me.
So far I'm quite impressed with the 204. Its quite zippy, and linux command line apps are zippy enough.
I currently have it running:
* DHCP server
* DNS server
* Print Server
* OneDrive-d
* Transmission
* Plex
Doesn't seem to slow down from running all that stuff so far, and memory usage remains low.
The onedrive-d daemon seems to create a lot of disk activity which I'm currently investigating but its great.
Current issues:
ReadyDLNA seems to disconnect with samsung smartTV after a while. Not sure why. Plex is simply amazing, although my girlfriend claims it disconnected. I have to see that happen. - jameswalmsleyAspirant

Pretty slick app.
I also see transcode options available. I'm not really sure if they actually work. I will try to test later. - ZBoaterAspirantMy RN202 took about 12 hours as well. 2 x 6TB HGST drives.
