- schalliolAspirantI think a lot of people use that drive in a ReadyNAS anyway and I haven't heard complaints
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI think he was referring to the consumer green drives (i.e. WD20EARS).

What do you mean WD says they should not be used in a raid environment? They are still RE drives (raid edition). For instance RE4-GP that I'm using. - schrorayAspirantAPC Back-UPS CS 650 is working with RND6350

- schalliolAspirantAs time moves on, it seems like it would be worth noting what makes a drive compatible or incompatible. Now that 4K sectors are possible, it's hard to know what wouldn't be compatible now. Generally, any drive SHOULD work that's currently sold meeting certain specs. Certification is nice if possible of course!

I didn't realize that drive was enterprise class, thank you for pointing that out! That does mean that there's at least one currently available enterprise drive certified, which makes me feel a bit better.
Ironically, though, did you see the reviews you linked to? One person had 2 out of 10 DOA. Another had 3 out of 4! On the other hand, the WD RE4-GP and Constellation 2TB seem to have complaints about drive failures as well.
I still have some concern about the recent silence from the Jedi council. As Masika points out, the compatibility list is quite out of date, with many of the drives no longer available.
I definitely appreciate their conservative approach to certifying drives and I understand that it can take a while for a drive to get certified. But a year ago they were much more communicative about testing the WD enterprise drives and the problems they encountered. And we heard from Han Solo in November about qualifying current enterprise-class drives in the following weeks, but it's been complete radio silence since then.
Jedi? Any update? Could you at least tell us whether (a) the drives are currently being evaluated for the Sparc systems (or are in the queue to be evaluated), (b) they won't ever be evaluated, or (c) have been evaluated and won't be approved without a fix of some kind (no matter whose)?
I'd be interested to hear about Seagate Constellations, WD RE4s, or RE4-GPs -- the 3 other enterprise drives currently qualified on Intel systems. If there's a better place to have this conversation, I'd be happy to take it elsewhere. - MasikaAspirantThe compatibility list is so out of date with alot of the harddrives no longer able to be purchased. When will the list be updated and current harddrives listed?
- jhunt29AspirantI know this conversation has gone in circles for a few years, and I have tried to follow it, but could somebody offer an opinion on whether the ReadyNAS 1100 works with RE4-GP (02FYPS) drives? A major merchant in this corner of the world is suggesting that, and I just cannot find any clarity in these forums. Did RAIDiator 4.1.7 solve the problems? Has Netgear stopped chasing this b/c the 1100 is no longer in production? Was it only ever a problem with high LCC that did not bother most users? Is there a WD firmware issue? (Noting that the 2100 is approved for use with RE4-GP WD2002FYPS only with firmware > 4.05G05)
Heres hoping that my tolerance of trailing edge technology will mean that somebody else already knows the answers.
Thanks
