ReadyNAS Ultra+ 2 USB 3.0 Hard Drives
I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 running firmware 4.2.28. I've had it for a few years and can't seem to get a USB 3 drive to work on the front port. When I first bought it I tried a "Seagate Expansion 500 GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive STAX500102" when I first bought it, & it would work on the back USB 2 ports, but not the front port which was USB 3. At the time I looked around and on the forum I found a post that said maybe the mobile drive required more power than what the front port provided. It was an answer which satisfied me at the time. (Here's the link for reference: https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Hardware-Compatibility/ULTRA2-USB-3-0-HDD-only-works-on-USB2-0-port-and-not-USB3-0/td-p/737539)
Yesterday I bought a "Seagate 5TB USB 3 Desktop Hard Drive STDT5000100" which uses an external power supply & get the same results when using the front USB 3 port. Any ideas? I'm starting to feel like it was a waste of money because the USB 3.0 port on the front weighted heavily at the time for my purchasing decision & with this being around 3 years old, it's almost time to start thinking about a replacement device. Netgear may not be in the running due to this experience.
