Seagate Expansion USB 3TB on Duo v2 doesn't work
Tried to connect a "WD My Book Essential 3TB USB 3.0" to my ReadyNAS Duo v2, but the disk wasn't recognized. After seeing the Hardware Compatibility List posted by Chewbacca on September 11, I got a "Seagate Expansion USB 3.0/2.0 3TB Desktop Drive" instead. But the ReadyNAS didn't recognize that one either.
The Seagate Expansion 3.5" HDD is listed on the HCL and tested with the ReadyNAS Duo v2. Could the problem be related to the 3TB capacity?
Would this be solved in some future firmware version? I am currently running RAIDiator-arm-5.3.6
Thanks.
Rob

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIs it recognised if you connect it to the front (USB 2.0) port?
- bbonnettAspirantI recently purchased two ReadyNAS Duo v2 and several Seagate Goflex 3TB drives to connect to the USB3 ports on the Duos. The 3TB drives are not recognized and have also had the same result with trying 3TB WD Red drives via a Cavalry dock. The Duos do recognize smaller Goflex and drives via the Cavalry. The problem appears totally related to the 3TB size. Having 3TB drives is critical to me as I'm running two WD 3TB drives within the Duos and need the external as a redundant backup. Any idea when an update may be available to address this?
- SkarnAspirant3TB USB 3.0 drives are critical to me also.
I have a pair of the same Western Digital 3TB drives referenced by the OP. I have previously been using them via USB 2 with a ReadyNAS Pro Business (semi-retired), and then a WNDR4500 N900 router. I was looking forward to being able to use them at full speed off of the USB 3 ports on my new Duo v2 so that I could have the Duo be my main NAS and the WD drives be my backup. (The N900's USB performance is abysmal; about half of what I get with these drives directly connected via USB 2.)
When I plug these drives into the USB 3 ports on the Duo, the drive powers up, but it is not recognized and there are no changes in the admin interface. Same thing when I unplugged the UPS and plugged the drive into the front port, but now I no longer have any user accounts on the Duo v2. - memilanukAspirantThis is kind of worrisome... I have a Duo v2 on the way, and plan on plugging in a couple of spare 500GB drives initially, but sometime after the holidays I am going to get some new (bigger) drives, likely 3TB each and expand the array. I have a Seagate Goflex 3TB USB 3.0 external drive I had hoped to plug into the ReadyNAS Duo v2 for backups... but it sounds like the NAS won't recognize that big of an external drive?
Bummer! :( - pixel81GuideAfter some experimention, I'm able to mount a 4TB (Seagate ST4000DM000) Drive to the ReadyNAS NV+ v2
I was able to do this by using a PC running CentOs 6.2, partitioning the drive as a single GPT partition (via parted) and formatting it with the ext4 filesystem.
I've posted what I did here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=71331 - pillickAspirantMy generic 1TB Seagate Expansion drive isn't recognized either. About as common a drive as exists, and it's not compatible? Who's in charge here? I mean really?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredpillick looking at your forum join date you would have a Duo (v1), not a Duo v2, I think. See How to tell whether I have a Duo v1 or Duo v2 or NV+ v1 or NV+ v2
Please note that the Duo (v1) does not support drives that are larger in capacity than 2TB. - lobomarinoAspirant10 months after my original post I upgraded to RAIDiator-arm-5.3.8, but the ReadyNAS Duo V2 still doesn't recognize the 3TB Seagate Expansion 3.5" HDD, neither on the USB ports in the back nor the one in the front. So we are 2 firmware versions further down the road and the issue still hasn't been addressed. Too bad...
