Seagate ST2000DL003 2TB with ReadyNAS Duo v2 ?

Hello,

The Seagate ST2000DL003 Barracuda Green 3.5-inch 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s Drive (64MB Buffer,5900RPM) is listed on the HCL as compatible with the ReadyNAS Duo but is not listed for the ReadyNAS Duo v2

Can someone please advise whether it is definitely incompatible with the Duo v2 ?

This is an important issue for me as the Amazon web site suggested this drive type for me, presumably because people had previously bought it for the Duo (but possibly not for Duo v2).

I have attempted to install 2 of these drives in my ReadyNAS Duo v2.
The Duo v2 is functioning as a server, but is only providing ~4GB as a media share and ~4GB as a backup share.
The 'system' tab shows no 'volumes' present.
As a complete novice to ReadyNAS devices, I am not sure what is going on here.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you want to call me an idiot please go ahead, and I'd rather you called me an idiot than you ignored this post ;-)

There is a known issue with this drive at the moment and there is a test drive firmware that should address it. I would not recommend this drive for any ReadyNAS model at this time. Perhaps look at the Hitachi drives on the compatibility list.

Can you provide a screenshot (you can use e.g. imageshack and paste the forum code here).
  • Thanks for your reply mdgm. I have a couple of questions :
    1. What would you like me to provide a screenshot of ? I can show how Windows offers just 3.99GB on each share. I can show "volumes" being empty on the "system" tab. Or was there something specific you would like me to capture? Sorry if I have missed the point, but I'm not at all familiar with ReadyNAS.
    2. Do you have any details of the test drive firmware that you mentioned ? Where can it be found and how is it installed ?
  • Hi,

I think we have the same issues here, we have 2 Seagate Pipeline HD ST2000VM002 2GB drive with ReadyNAS NV+v2.

We try to setup as X-RAID 2, but after that, we also see 3.99GB on media and backup share. 'System' tab also show no 'Volumes' as well.

I just notice this drive NOT appears on the HCL for the ReadyNAS NV+v2, is it mean they are not compatible? Will the test-drive firmware support that?

Also, we follow the instruction try to access to the boot menu, it only allow "Normal Boot", is it relate to the disk compatible issue?

    Thanks.
  • The following sequence worked to install Flex-Raid - Raid 1:
. Reboot (factory settings) - see p17 of Hardware Manual
. Launch Raidar, and select Flex-Raid, Raid 1
    . Volume C is created, with 1841 GB :-)
[please excuse multiple follow-ups to my earlier multiple-threads, but I wanted to spread the word. I am so relieved not to have wasted my money on un-usable drives !]
