Service Action to Prevent PSU Failures in ReadyNAS NV/NV+
A Service Action notice has been posted in the Announcement forum to prevent ReadyNAS NV and NV+ systems from premature power supply failures at viewtopic.php?t=10259. If you own a NV or NV+ within the serial number range in the notice, please either download and install the add-on or perform the simple fan reversal procedure. We've seen a small percentage of our customers experiencing power supply failure and we want to avoid any downtime you may encounter due to an unnecessary RMA process.

- chirpaLuminaryWorking on it, hopefully have an answer to you shortly.
- muriAspirantWhat is the recommended fan speed for a NV+ after replacing the PSU with a non-defective one?
Thank you - chirpaLuminary
I have passed info of the Service Action notice down the line. If you still have problems when contacting the local support, please ask them to check with level 3, or at least get an agent name so I can try and contact them directly.cycheng6868 wrote: Any update on PSU replacement process in HK please?
Depends on the drive temperatures, could be somewhere between 1800-2200RPM.muri wrote: What is the recommended fan speed for a NV+ after replacing the PSU with a non-defective one? - muriAspirant
Depends on the drive temperatures, could be somewhere between 1800-2200RPM.
My Readynas shipped with a minimum fan speed of 1800 rpm.
After the discovery of failing psu, Infrant recommended to set it to 2100.
I was wondering if it is safe to step back to 1800 rpm now that I have replaced the psu with the new one.
Now drives (seagate) temperature is between 33-35 degrees and board is 26 degrees at 2083 rpm (idle temp).
Thank you - muriAspirant

You could use the EnableFanMinRPMOverride addon from the Add-Ons page to set the minimum back to 1800RPM.muri wrote: I was wondering if it is safe to step back to 1800 rpm now that I have replaced the psu with the new one.
I already have it.
The question was not "how to" but "should I ?" ... - cycheng6868AspirantHi,
The agent said that they haven't received any notice about this case.
Kindly please contact Mr. Kevin Zhou at kevin.zhou@netgear.com.cn.
Francis Cheng - purplexAspirantAs of this afternoon, my livingroom smells as if I held a barbecue inside with electrical components on the grill that were left on there for far too long. Took me some time to realize this smell was coming from my Readynas, busy all day since this morning for serving an important software update through ftp towards our employees.
Even though the reported temp is 36C, I took it down and cleaned the unit as good as i could with an airduster, though apart from the fan, it wasn't all that dirty to begin with. After being on for half an hour, the smells are getting worse again.
The unit did not fail on me, I'm not having problems with the unit not booting, or rebooting by itself.
I had already applied in the past the fan reversal procedure with success, after i found the 2100rpm procedure way too noisy.
Anyway, for now I set the rpm override to 2500 just to be sure. Just hope nobody will call me on the phone, not sure i'll still hear them (c:=
I just upgraded to version R4 2 weeks ago. Is this the cause?
I suppose my PSU is dying? What can/should I do? Can I still keep it running?

Someone should answer your case by the morning. Nothing I can do from the USA side as it would be shipped from over in Europe. - chirpaLuminary
