USB 2.0 External RAID Not Recognized by RN314 with OS 6.2.0

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a new ReadyNAS 314 running OS 6.2.0. Everything has worked great with only one technical problem. I'm using an old external Iomega RAID enclosure for as a backup device, and it does not show up on my admin page. It is formated to ext4 and runs on USB 2.0. I plugged it into the front shared USB 2.0/eSata port and no result. I tried using the rear USB 3.0 ports with no success. The odd thing is that I'm using a very old USB 2.0 stick in the lower rear port to hold my encryption key, and it works just fine. I tested the front port with a newer thumb drive and it showed up with no problems. The old Iomega RAID enclosure works great with all my other systems. So, there is no obvious problem with the old enclosure. This should work, but it doesn't. What am I forgetting?

Here is my log file from usb_drives:

1-0:1.0
1-1 idProduct=1000 idVendor=090c devnum=2 speed=480
1-1:1.0
1-3 idProduct=027f idVendor=059b devnum=4 speed=480
1-3:1.0
2-0:1.0
3-0:1.0
4-0:1.0
4-1 idProduct=0002 idVendor=051d devnum=10 speed=1.5
4-1:1.0
4-2 idProduct=0008 idVendor=08ec devnum=3 speed=480
4-2:1.0
5-0:1.0

My RN314 is running on a RAID 10 configuration with encryption and anti-virus both activated. My Iomega is configured to RAID 0 with no encryption. I'm adverse to updating the firmware on the 314 without any backup system. And, I'd like to avoid buying a new external enclosure if possible.

Thanks for any suggestions.

  • The NAS sees a Seagate ST3750840AS drive attached with no partition table, which I assume is your iomega drive.  Currently we don't support external drives without a partition table, but we will support it in our next firmware release.

    Hi cleveland_rocks,

It should mount just fine. Perhaps try the latest Firmware 6.4.1 and see if there's a difference. If the issue persists, extract the device logs while it's plugged in and send it.

    Kind regards,

Brian, Thanks for your response. The firmware update did not get my RN314 to recognize the external RAID. I'm sending you my log files. Hope that helps. ***
