WD Caviar Green 2.5 tb compability?

Dear forum,

I tried to search if anyone else have faced the same problem as me with the HDD with type number "WD25EZRX" but it doesn't seem to be the case.

This HDD comes from a series where both the 2 tb and the 3 tb is on the approved list but this specific 2.5 tb causes me problems, and I hope you can help me out.

When I install the disk the ReadyNAS (RND2110v2) automatically formats the disk but makes only one partion visible, one of 275 gb, and that is it. I tried to connect to the HDD via a HDD dock and the disk works but the rest of the disk is then in smaller parions (approx 100 gb) whereas the remaining approx 2 tb is just unallocated. Even when I then format the disk and load it again it ends up with the same 275 gb which is annoying when I have 10 times as much space on the disk.

What can I do to make this work? I cannot see why 2 disks from this line up is approved but the one in the middle of the range should not be able to work, afterall they are based on the same technology.

Your help and assistance is greatly apprecaited!

Thanks,

Salttoft

  • Thanks for your help mdgm!

I updated the firmware on the NAS it self but I will need to check what version of RAIDiator (which is the software on the PC right?)

When I look underneath on the serial number sticker it says RND2110v2 but as per the picture from your link the back looks more like the Duo v1. I will need to follow up on that but I would tend to follow the serial number - do you disagree?

    Thanks,

  • The production Duo v2 will definitely say v2 on the lower right corner of the drive access door. RAIDiator 4.1.x on the v1 has the traditional orange and blue screens RAIDiator 5.3.x on the v2 has grey/black color scheme screens.

RAIDar is the program that runs on the PC to discover any and all ReadyNAS units on the network. Frontview is the interface between RAIDiator (the NAS operating system) so you can make changes.

The stickers on the bottom with v1, v2 and v3 all refer to minor hardware changes on the original Duo (v1). Since you have such a sticker, you probably have the original Duo (v1).

If you open RAIDar, in the far right information column (has an icon of a big blue circle with an i in it) when there are no alerts, it displays the version of RAIDiator on your system. It probably state 4.1.8 or 4.1.9 which indicates you have a Duo (v1).
  • Hi again,

I have now checked the ReadyNAS.

It runs on RAIDiator 4.1.9 and it doesn't say v2 in the lower right corner on the front, it only writes ReadyNAS DUO on the Front. On the bottom of the NAS it writes a serial number of RND2110v2 so I assumed it was a v2, but you think it isn't?

So if I have a ReadyNAS DUOv1 will it then work with a 2tb HDD only?

    Thanks for your help,

    Salttoft
