WD Red 2Gb Drive (WD20EFRX) compatibility with NV+ v1
Does anyone know whether the new WD Red 2Gb drive (WD20EFRX) is compatible with the old NV+ v1?
I see the 1Gb model (WD10EFRX) and well as the old 2Gb WD2EARX listed in the hardware compatibility list, so am surprised that the WD20EFRX isn't mentioned. It is because it is incompatible or because it just hasn't been tested yet?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLast week I asked about the WD Red Series and Sparc. They were planning to test the 2TB drive. So either they haven't tested it yet or it's currently in testing. Hopefully it passes and gets added to the list. The drives are planned to be tested in the Duo v1 as well.
Do note that just because one model in a series is compatible it doesn't mean that the other models are. It may be a good indication that the drive is likely to be compatible, but it's no guarantee. NetGear can and will deny support if you use drives outside the list. - isak100Aspirantnoticed that it still hasnt been added to the HCL.
is anyone currently using this drive with NV+ v1? - Rudy_sanAspirantI went ahead and bought and installed 4 2Gb WD20EFRX in my NV+ v1 a month ago and they are working fine.
- QuackingPlumsAspirantIs there any way of telling what is currently being tested and what the roadmap is for things appearing on the HCL? Just curious because I'm quite keen on these drives but don't want to go against the HCL, even if it's been proven by someone else that they work! :)
- How well does the WD Red drives work with ReadyNAS Duo v2? Does the Duo v2 take advantage of the NAS optimized features of the WD Red drives?
Thanks! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt should work well with the Duo v2. The "NAS optimised features" you refer to are really just disabling "green" features which if enabled would've caused compatibility issues.
As for the NV+ v1 I've sent some PMs to Han Solo asking for further info on this and am still waiting for a response. - Thanks mdgm. Let me know what Han Solo says. I just bought 2 of these drives on newegg. $119.99 for 2 TB.
- Pjotr1AspirantJust installed a week ago two in a 2-bay Readynas Ultra 2 and they are working fine. These WD Reds run almost inaudible and head movements are not noticeable, in contrast to my older WD RE2 - Greens that were already quite silent. During the resync process when initialising, data transfer was at 130 MB/s to 70 MB/s which is up to the limits of these disks (they are faster at the beginning of the platters than on the end as with any HDD).
So if you consider these disks for a SPARC based nas, I would strongly suggest to upgrade to the newer and much faster I86 series. The 2-bay Readynas Ultra is the same size as the old DUO but much faster and almost inaudible with the Reds. - QuackingPlumsAspirantJust noticed that this drive is now on the HCL! I don't know how long it's been there but it wasn't there when I checked last week.
Right, where's my credit card...? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes it was added recently. It is good that NetGear added it.
