WD sent a non-HCL replacement for my dead WD20EARS
Hey forum. One of my 3 2TB WD Green (WD20EARS) disks failed and I RMA'd it. I know the EARS models are obsolete in favor of the EARX models. However, WD sent me a 3TB WD30EZRX in place of my dead 2TB. Great! Better unit to replace my dead one. Alas, 3TB are not on the HCL for older spark units like my NV+ v1. The disk is shown in Frontview as "dead"...

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired3TB disks are incompatible with the NV+ (v1). Buy a WD20EFRX disk.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is no GPT support for Sparc. So if a 3TB disk was inserted it would likely be recognised as having <1TB of capacity.
- ahpsi1TutorI think what is at issue here is the OP did have a compatible disk and through no fault of their own was given a larger, incompatible disk as a replacement through the WDC RMA process. He/she didn't go out and select and purchase the 3 TB drive and didn't choose the 3 TB as the replacement for the dead 2 TB. Under most circumstances a larger disk would be a positive however in this case the OP will now need to spend money to purchase another disk because the replacement is not compatible with his RN. Different than it simply not being on the HCL this 3TB disk will in fact be recognized as ~ .7 TB rather than 3 TB or 2 TB making it an unusable disk for the OP.
- Usually vendors will work with you on the RMA process if you tell them that the replacement drive is not compatible. So one option is to get back to Western Digital support.
Or, use the 3 TB drive somewhere else and buy a WD20EFRX (Red) drive. - cbredesenAspirant

Yes, this is exactly the situation. I am well aware of the HCL.StephenB wrote: Usually vendors will work with you on the RMA process if you tell them that the replacement drive is not compatible. So one option is to get back to Western Digital support.

This is what I was looking for. I'll talk to WD support and see what they can do for me. Rather not go out of pocket here but I could in a pinch. Worst case, sell/trade on ebay/CL.
Thanks y'all!
