#19436397 5.3.6 ARM-Unable to use ReadyNAS remote
Hi
Duo V2
Since upgrading to 5.3.6 users have been unable to access log into the NAS via ReadyNAS remote.
I get "ReadyNAS Remote Online - Andy Asker" but it never actually connects to the server itself using "Connect to ReadyNAS"
In Radiator ReadyNAS remote is marked as "Internet Connection" and "Online".
-Checked Readynas Remote is enabled
-Removed/Readded Accounts.
-Created new ReadyNAS remote Account
-Disabled Router/OS firewall
-Reinstalled latest client
-Removed latest client 1.6.5.18, full clean up with CCleaner, reinstalled 1.6.5.18
-Tried without encryption
-Tried on Mac
-Rebooted ReadyNAS Box twice.
-Rebooted pc several times.
-FTP access working fine.
Same problem, cannot access shares. Help!
Thanks
Andy

- i01moniAspirantSame problem here. Remote install ReadyNASRemoteSetup works fine but when: "adjusting network adapter (x86)" the windows installation tool crashes ans alas so does the readynas installation process: "wrong filename syntax". Ehr...
- rozelAspirantRight - nothing seems to work regarding my non-connection issues so I am ready to do an OS Reinstall to just see if this corrects the problem.
I have just tried to undertake this procedure but am again having difficulty. The Manual for my Duo V2 says: -
To access the boot menu:
Power off your unit.
Using a straightened paper clip, press and hold the Reset button.
Press the Power button to power on the unit.
Continue to press the Reset button until the Power button LED, USB and backup status LED, disk 1 LED, and disk 2 LED are lit
Press the Backup button to scroll through the boot mode options.
The unit shows the boot mode options using the LEDs, as described in the following table:
Boot Mode Status Indicator
Normal Power LED is lit.
Factory default Disk 1 LED is lit.
OS reinstall Disk 2 LED is lit.
Tech support USB and backup status LED is lit.
Skip volume check Power LED and disk 1 LED are lit.
Memory test Power LED and disk 2 LED are lit.
Disk test Power LED and USB and backup status LED are lit.
Press and release Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection.
The system boots in the selected boot mode.
HOWEVER when I press the backup button to scroll through the options at that stage in the process, the lights turn off and pressing again and again doesn't bring any light on, nevermind allowing me to scroll through the various light patterns. Of course I am still pressing the reset button but the 4 lights (which are on at this stage) turn off the second I press the backup button and I can't move forward in the process.
Is this another issue that 5.3.6 has introduced? I have undertaken a similar procedure before like this to return the unit to Factory default and had no difficulty then but that was just after I bought the unit and was running 5.3.5.
Help please - Stevie65AspirantI have also been having problems so contacted support. I got this reply back...
"I have tried to replicate this case and I have come up with the same problem. This problem has been escalated to the Engineering department. For the meantime if you do not have a Mountain OS Lion for Mac it would be best to downgrade the firmware of the NAS to 5.3.5 since the 5.3.6 is made due to Mac releasing the Mountain Lion OS."
So, I am downgrading for now.
Steve - rozelAspirantWell I have just attempted to do a downgrade - 5.3.5 installed ok as far as I could see but guess what? The ReadyNas Remote and ReadyDrop icons are still there and more worringly, I still cannot do an OS Reinstall for the same reason as in my last post.
Please can someone tell me what is going on - I simply do not want to spend much more time on this and most certainly do not want to go back to a Factory Default, even if I could as I would lose all my shares and all - a nightmare this is - NetGear - What are you doing about it? - oh and please do not post by suggesting that I raise a Support Case etc etc - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry clearing your web browser cache (e.g. Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer).
Can you also download your logs zip file (In the Dashboard go to System > Info > Logs and click on Download Logs) and check what the output of bios_ver.log is? - rozelAspirantThanks mdgm - I am mucking about with dual monitors at the moment and each time I went into the configuration menu and clicked on settings it came up with the two icons along with (and I forgot to mention this) an "Error 4000" window asking me whether I wanted to ignore it or not. Not sure what I did - whether I chose to ignore or just pressed the "X" to get rid of it. Anyhow after closing all my browsers in both monitor screens and reopening again the 5.3.6 icons have disappeared and everything looks cool now :) I am now going to reinstall the former ReadyNas Remote Add-On and then see what happens. Trust me, I will report back shortly :)
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDon't install the Remote add-on. It's incompatible with 5.3.6
Remote is a built-in feature in 5.3.6 - rozelAspirantKeep up please - I've reverted back to 5.3.5 :) At the moment I have installed version 1.6.5.18 of the app on my windows PC and the add-on is version 1.0.9.81. I can't login :( I am now reverting back to 1.6.5.16 of the app but I need the former version of the add-on.
Can you please point me to where I can download that please? Edit - think I've found it :) - rozelAspirantOk right now I am back to 5.3.5 firmware on my ReadyNas
I am running (still) version 1.0.9.81 of the Add-On on my ReadyNas
I am running 1.6.5.16 Remote App on my Windows 7 (64-bit) DeskTop PC
I am running 1.6.5.16 Remote App on my Windows 7 (32-bit) NetBook
I am running 1.2 Android App on my Samsung Galaxy S2 SmartPhone
Current results: -
1. Everything appears normal on my ReadyNas under configuration/settings - ie; I do not have the former 5.3.6 icon/switches anymore
2. Using my DeskTop PC without using ReadyNas Remote, I can login to my server ok and can see all my shares and files no problem - my network is working fine
3. Invoking the Remote App on my DeskTop results in me logging in to the Remote Service without difficulty but when I try to connect to the ReadyNas, an explorer window pops up but it is completely empty - should have an icon saying ReadyNasDuo - the name I have given to my server. I am trying to connect using my Admin username and password - previous to all this messing about, I could do so successfully
4. Using my NetBook PC, I can login to the Remote Service no problem AND can connect to the ReadyNasDuo via WiFi with No problem :) - I have allocated a separate username for use with this device
5. Using my SmartPhone, I can login with my Admin credentials but when I tap my server on the screen it says "trying to connect" and eventually gives up.
I haven't as yet asked my other users what they experience but will do so later and will report back. I know I wouldn't normally connect to my server using the App, whilst on my DeskTop, my network is sound for this but I was able to do so before. If my other users can connect without difficulty, then the only problem which remains is with my SmartPhone.
Questions for now please: -
A. Can someone please point me to the previous version of the Android App, which I was formerly using - or tell me if there is a way of reverting back - it was working before I updated to v 1.2
B. Again I need help doing an OS reinstall on my ReadyNAS. I muaybe doing something wrong - please read up to a former post. When pressing the reset button and keeping it pressed - when you then press the Power button, how long do you keep this pressed for before pressing the Backup button to scroll through the options? As I have said, when I press the backup button all the lights turn off, save for the Power button light and continuing pressing and releasing this button does nothing. I have been successful with this before and used the instructions downloaded for my V2 Duo which I posted above.
Thanks again and look forward to some more help :) - HERBIEOAspirant

Once all the led's are lit you have to release the reset button then use the backup button to scroll through options when disk 2 led is lit Press and release Reset button to confirm your boot menu selection.
