NewCS on ReadyNAS DUO!
Hi all,
I dont know if this is the right place to post but...
I managed to get my hands on a NewCS verision compiled for ReadyNas. It seems to be working all right exept the Kernel for ReadyNAS does not have "Serial Device Convertor" compiled so my Phoenix USB readers never get mapped to tty\USB\x .
I have read in some forums and it seems to be 2 missing for this to work.
usbserial
ftdi_sio
Someone know how to compile these files for the ReadyNas, someone know where to find information about this?

- bloemkool11AspirantHi,
My first post here...
I'd like to run newCS on my NV+, and trying the package offered here..
It should work because the processor is the same ( sparc afaik )
When I insmod the ftdi_sio module, I get :# insmod ftdi_sio.ko
insmod: error inserting 'ftdi_sio.ko': -1 Invalid module format
Any Ideas or updates from the guru's ?
thanks a lot ... - rosensAspirantHi all - and Happy Newyear! :D
I have NewCS 1.65 running fine on my ReadyNAS DUO with a Smargo Smartreader+ USB. It reads the card as it should. All types of client types gets good ECM's from my server.
But I have discovered that the card does'nt get any EMM's. :(
I'm suspecting that it could be a driver issue because i'm successfully getting EMM's with NewCS, Smargo on a Qnap NAS with exactly the same configuration.
Anyone with same experience?
I'm using these drivers:
http://www.readynas.com/download/modules/ftdi_sio.ko
http://www.readynas.com/download/modules/usbserial.ko
hope someone has a solution.
regards rosens - trueblueswedeAspirantHi !
I have the same problem, Can“t get EMM to work on my ReadyNAS.
Did you find a solution ? - AltaControlAspirant

Hi having the same problem...any suggestions plz? Answers are hard to find :(
thx - rutgercjonakerAspirantHi!
I just got me a readynas duo on which I planned to run newcs.
I had some trouble first with my disk so I upgraded to latest firmware.
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.7-T29 [1.00a043]
Now, when I have downloaded the newcs SW and used the correct
.ko-files which loads OK, newcs segmentation faults when I start it.readynas1:/usr/local/bin# lsmod
Module Size Used by
ftdi_sio 33480 0
usbserial 29608 1 ftdi_sio
uhci_hcd 27192 0
ehci_hcd 36336 0
padre_nand_flash 4164 0
padre_i2c_hwmon 14000 0
padre_p0_led_button 17496 0
padre_des 5552 0
padre_gmac 99720 0
padre_io 546224 0
padre_i2c_rtc 8948 0
padre_i2c 15960 4 padre_i2c_hwmon,padre_p0_led_button,padre_gmac,padre_i2c_rtc
readynas1:/usr/local/bin# ./newcs -c ./newcs.xml
Segmentation fault
Should I go back to firmware 4.1.6? Is it a different linux version?
Also, I do not have a library "/usr/local/lib" which is setup in the start script.
/Lars Johan - rutgercjonakerAspirantHi again!
The problem is solved. It was problem with the newcs binary after ftp transfer.
I copied the file again in an other way and now it works!
/Lars Johan - StrokerAspirantIn the new Newcs theres a file in the BIN dir called "newcs.readynas.usb" Whats its for and how shall I do to use it? Still use my Multiprogrammer as a phoenix reader in windows (and its just works day after day) since the new Phoenix reader from Ad konsult here in Sweden dont work. Am not sure if its me and my readynas programming or the reader itself.
The question was - Whats the newcs file for? Anybody know?? - StrokerAspirantSince I'm happy today and got everything to work I will share what I learn. Maybe its rubbish for some or even most of you but if I had had the answers to all my silly questions it would have spared me a lot of hours and a almost collapsed marriage.
The solutions was really simple and that I would have known if I was knowing what I was doing.. You see what I mean.. First I learn.
* to execute a file from readynas filesystem I had to write ./
If that didnt work it was almost every time because that file wasn't any good for my readynas....... I tried also to chmod -x it but it never did work.
* to execute a module (usbserial.ko and the other) I first ha to go to the library were its was copied from my winspc program. If im standing in the root (which I came to by using the "ssh" change in my readynas panel that I downloaded from the forumsite to make it possible to get into the filesystem.. and then restart the readynas to get it to work.... and then install the winspc.. I had to write ( used the putty window) cd/usr/local/bin/newcs/ (I made the library newcs myself) fx and then I wrote insmod (which probably means "insert program in the toolbox" so to speak) - and the filename. Sometimes I had to write chmod 775 and the filename first to make the file read and writeable.
To be sure if it was there working I wrote lsmod and then i could see if the files had started to work.
Everything sofar I learn from this side and some other but I write it anyway since I'm so stupid I didn't understand by the writing.
The problem I had almost all the time from start (know now it was almost right from start) that have been all the time was two things.
First- if i use a phoenix reader from adteknik in sweden and I had to write ttyUSB0 in newcs.xml .. and second it works 358mhz and not 368. So simple was that that I had worked with and banged my head in to periods in three months.
Hope you guys dont mind a stupid one like me tries to explain for other stupid ones i guess is out there. If anybody dont care and doesn't give a shit I at least explained it for myself :)
Greetings from sweden. - StrokerAspirantToday I found out there was something that have happened with the readynas. The newcs works perfect by the way :) and i can reach everything as normal BUT I can not log in as a admin ?? Somebody has a clue..
I newer stop belive in people.. maybe theeres somebody that have an answer why this happens.....)
edit - If I restart the nas it works - but then when i dont know I cant login as admin- - kserxesAspirantHi,
Could somebody please send me a PM with the file or a working link to the newcs binary for the ReadyNAS Duo? Unfortunately the links from this post are not working anymore.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Juergen
