ReadyNAS 10400 Stuck at Password Recovery

Hi Community, hoping someone can help with my out of support device.

Rebooted my ReadyNAS RN10400 after resolving some home network issues and it is now stuck at the password recovery screen. I enter the e-mail and answer the security question but then it just sits there spinning without ever progressing. Not even a failure.

I have tried re-installing the OS as per instructions here: https://kb.netgear.com/22891/How-do-I-access-the-boot-menu-on-my-ReadyNAS-104-204-214-or-314?article=22891 to revert to the default password but it goes back to the password recovery page every time I connect.

What can I do to regain access as I do not want to lose my data.

Thanks

How do I recover a lost or forgotten administrator password on my ReadyNAS OS 6?

    Method 3: OS Re-install

Things to note before performing an OS re-install:

    • The admin password and network settings will be reset to their default settings. The default settings for the admin account are:
      • Username: admin
      • Password: password
    • The default network settings are reset to DHCP client (the ReadyNAS will look to a DHCP server to obtain an IP address). If you can no longer access your ReadyNAS by IP address after the OS re-install use the RAIDar tool to find the new IP address.
    • The data volume is not affected by performing an OS re-install.

The steps to perform an OS re-install are dependent on the model of your ReadyNAS. 8follow the link above to get the complete table)

Ohmarr: In addition to resetting the password and network configuration, the OS reinstall will also turn off volume quota.  You can re-enable that on the volume settings wheel.

It sounds to me like you saved the old password in your browser and it's sending that to the NAS.  Of course, it's wrong, so the NAS thinks you need to reset it.

  • Hi all, I am also having problems with passwords and the recovery not working. I noted that re-installing the OS may overcome this problem but am paranoid of losing my data! If I were to remove the disk array and install a new single disk for functionality, re-install the OS and then re-insert the original disk array, would the original data of the array still be available?

then you would accomplish precisely nothing.  The OS and all the settings (including passwords) are on the disks.

The OS-reinstall is data-safe.  It will

      • reset the network configuration to use DHCP with no bonding
      • turn off volume quota (which can be re-enabled on the volume settings wheel)
      • reset your admin password to password.

Instructions are on pages 28-29 here:
