"Snapshot initialization failed" error every time
Please help me! I have paid a lot of money for two units with disks and licenses to run ReadyNas Replicate and I can't get it to work properly!
I get the same error message every time I try to use the ReadyNAS Replicate. I have tried running both Backup Data and Backup System and all the time I get "Snapshot initialization failed" error. Both devices are ReadyNAS NV+ v2 with RAIDiator 5.3.5 and Flex-RAID (Raid5) disk configuration (running 4 x Seagate ST3000DM001-9YN166 in each unit). I am running the latest version (1.1.3) of ReadyNAS Replicate (two purchased licenses). I have disabled encryption and not using compression to speed up the process. I have tried creating new backup jobs, removing the old failed folders and restarting both units several times. I can't see any solution, it feels like I have tried all combinations and it fails every time. Below is the log from the latest attempt to run a Backup System:

- Today I tested to create a backup job making a backup in the other direction (from my backup nas to my main nas).
It seemed to work just fine. I cancelled the backup since I don't want that backup but it gave me hope that there might be a solution to this problem.

I also tested the real System backup with the same result as earlier, takes about 13 seconds to fail.

I removed all backup jobs and all the folders they created on both my nas-units. I also restarted both nas-units and created one new System backup job with a new name.
But it didn't work...

I can't see any problem in the logs that explains why I get "Snapshot initialization failed" all the time.

- Problem solved!
It was the default setting (10 GB) for snapshot size that had to be changed to "no snapshot". I got the information from Jeff Capone (Netgear). I created a new "System backup"-job with correct settings and after performing a restart of both NAS units the backup is now running and is expected to finish within about 30 hours according to ReadyNAS Replicate. It will be interesting to see how long time the incremental backup will take, that will determine how it will be possible to schedule the System backup using ReadyNAS Replicate. - Tell me more about this snapshot issue, can someone shed the light on how to use the snapshot setting?
- FWIW, I would get that "Snapshot initialization failed" if a substantial amount of data - several GBs or more - was being written to the NAS while it was trying to do a backup.

Hi,
The NV+ does not have snapshotting capabilities and I am not sure why the UI when you create a replicate job is offering that option; I will report this bug. In any case, when you create a job please set the snapshot to "no snapshot" and try to run the job and let me know.
