Backup not working
I haven't run my regular backup jobs for a month. In that time I have:
Replaced disk #1 after failure & resynced
Replaced disk #2 after failure & resynced
Upgraded to version 4 of FrontView
None of my previously existing Remote: Windows (NAS/Timestamp) backup jobs work. I get an "unable to access remote share" error.
I have tried:
1) Resetting up the backup job - still get "unable to acess" error
2) Swapping forward slashes for back slashes - still get error
3) Verified the backup locations are reachable from other locations on my Windows network.
Attached is a snippet from one of my backup jobs. Any help would be appreciated:

- aaronlyonAspirantI'm glad to see this issue posted--I'm having the same trouble. I'm a new user; updated to firmware v4 before I did any testing, so I never got the backups to work. Tech support escalated this issue for me. Waiting anxiously for an answer.

BTW, my case number is available by request. - aaronlyonAspirant

This is a serious issue with firmware v4, and another week has slipped by. Please at least tell us you're working on it!
-a - aaronlyonAspirantWe seriously need a solution for this issue. Many other similar complaints on this board. Hello, tech support?!?
- fourthturnAspirantI am having this same problem, though mine started even before the firmware upgrade. I had to shut down the NAS and my PC during the middle of the week due to a power outage. When I powered back up, none of my backups would work. No change in path, no change to the main PC. Same error "Error connecting to //computer/folder". Changing backslashes did not work, adding a username and password from the PC did not work, upgrading to new firmware did not work. I can connect to the same share from any other PC. Could the problem have to do with the NAS hanging on to an old DHCP IP address for the PC, and not letting it go? That's the only thing I can seem to guess that would coincide with my power down/power up.
- flexkeethAspirantI am a new user and receive the same errors when trying to setup backup jobs for my ReadyNAS NV+ system. Like others on this post, I get the "Error connecting to //computer/folder" message whenever I test the path or try to launch a backup job. Until this problem gets resolved I will be forced to do manual backups.
- ewokNETGEAR ExpertTrying switching to type of Windows/NAS backup (timestamps vs. archive bit) and see if the other one works. They use completely different mechanisms, so one may work while the other does not. Please try this as a workaround until we can resolve this issue.
- fourthturnAspirantThat didn't work either.
- markg1Aspiranti also have the same problem; when i try 'test connection' it fails.
however, for what its worth, if i use a different syntax as in the following, the test connection works, but the backup still fails:
//M2N32-SLI\Backup\
so in other words, \\m2n32-sli\backup does not work with test connection, where //m2n32-sli\backup DOES work with test connection. they both fail for the backup.
i am using a windows xp machine, and "backup" is a share on the e:\ drive. have tried the following, all with the prefixes // and \\:
m2n32-sli\backup
m2n32-sli\e:\backup
192.168.1.101\backup
192.168.1.101\e:\backup
what else can i try? i purchased the box just a couple months ago, and this function never worked.
thanks. - markg1Aspirantadditional symptom;
using a usb flash drive plugged into the front usb port (and is recognized as confirmed by being able to browse it via the network), the backup function still fails, but with a different error message;
destination is a usb device that is currently not connected
even though it is....
dont know if this helps or not, but i cant get ANY frontview backup function to work in any way. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertWould any of you be willing to give us remote access to your NAS with the backup source available for debugging? If so, please send me a PM. We have been trying to reproduce this in-house without success. My previous post about being able to reproduce it turned out to be user error.
