Cannot access ReadyNAS even though I can see it via RAIDar

- I have a ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 v2 that was setup to an ip address. All was working properly for a couple years.

- While away for Thanksgiving, the power went out at my house.

- Came back, and my entire network was in dissaray. However, several things in my network did work...
- Internet from my swith worked
- Receiver hooked up to my switch didn't
- Printer was backed up with 10 print jobs
- NAS was not visible or disconnected

- I power cycled everything; modem, switch, router, NAS.
- Internet still worked
- Receiver is now visible
- Printer was fixed and now printing
- NAS still not visible.

- From the RAIDar program, I can see it. All lights are GREEN except for the UPS "Uninterrupted power supply" light. It's clear.
- When I click on "Browse", it kicks me back with "Network Error - Windows cannot access \\10.4.1.11".
- I tried typing in the IP on my browser using "https://10.4.1.11", it kicks back with "This webpage is not available"

Can you please suggest what my next step may be?

I'm using Windows 7 PC, Chrome/IE if that makes a difference.

Here is the error I get...

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Aaron

What IP address and subnet mask is your PC using?
  • IPv4 Address.... 192.168.1.103
    Subnet Mask.... 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.1
  • Hi djcrazyase,

I cannot view the image you have posted. However, based from your response, the NAS IP address: 10.4.1.11 is not within the same network as with your PC that is within the 192.168.1.0 network. I suggest you these steps below:

    1. First, check if your ReadyNAS Duo is really a v2 on this link: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

    2. After verifying it, perform OS reinstall. OS reinstall will set the password back to its default and the NAS will be set back as being a DHCP client. This will not delete any data saved in the NAS.

Refer to these links as refernce guide in doing OS reinstall:

    If your ReadyNAS is a Duo v1: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... 6%2F600%3F

    If your ReadyNAS is a Duo v2: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... phbQ%3D%3D

    ========================

    Another way is this:

    1. Connect a PC directly to your NAS.
    2. Set a static IP address to your PC that is within the same range as with the IP address set on your NAS, for example: 10.4.1.10.
    3. Access the web-GUI of your NAS
    4. Set a static IP Address to your NAS that is within the range of your existing network. For example: 192.168.1.108
    5. Reconnect the NAS to your existing network.
    6. Set your PC to Obtain an IP address Automatically then reconnect it to your existing network
    7. Check if could now access the NAS within your existing network.

    Hope this would help :D
  • Thanks Ixa! I will give this a try and report back to you all.

  • Ok guys, so I went and tried the OS reinstall...
    - I turned the power off the NAS, keeping the power cable connected (waited more than 60 seconds)
    - Turned the power back on, keeping my finger on the power button, until i see the LED blink once. Let go
    - Then I use a paperclip to hit the resent on the back of the device for 5-6 seconds.

Hope this is what I was supposed to do.

Afterwards, this did not conduct the OS reinstall I don't believe. However, now the RAIDar cannot see the drive.

I had to restart my computer, now it sees it but the IP is still the same... 10.4.1.11

    Any thoughts on alternative options?

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Aaron
  • Well, great news! I tried the alternative which was to hookup the NAS drive directly to the computer, change my IP address, log into the NAS, change that one back to the default network and voila!!!

Thanks guys! Have a great Holidays, I know I will now!

If you don't have a backup strategy in place, then perhaps set one up for 2015.

BTW, based on your first screen shot, you have a v1, not a v2.
