Cannot Move/Copy folders
I have 2 folders in the default "Videos" folder on ReadyNas, one for iMovie Events, in which video clips are stored, and one for iMovie Projects in which the completed videos are stored. Running most updated firmware on Ready Nas Duo.
I set up about a month ago a backup job to intermittently back this up to a disconnected external. I am not sure if this is pertinent.
Today I tried to copy a new event, and project into this folder and I cannot copy it in there. There is no error message, a symbol of circle with a line through it comes up. I tried new folders and that works, but when I try to copy the events/movies out of old one and into the new one Finder asks me for my password?
So I can't seem to copy things in or out of my "Video" folder for some reason. I can't see any setting in Frontview to effect this.
Any thoughts?

- OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertIt seems that we are experiencing some ownership issues with the latest firmware. You can try the latest beta, or some people roll back to 4.1.8 when not wanting to use the beta.
4.1.10-T3:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59222 - sdavis81AspirantOK. The reason I know I have the latest firmware is that I just spent 6 weeks on email with support when trying to get Time Machine to connect to the server again.
I can get the files on the NAS, they are just in main directory. I will make a new folder and keep them there for a while, and fix it later. Not really interested in undoing the last 6 weeks of emails about getting Time Machine reconnected. That ended up requiring a hard drive reset. This all makes me appreciate the Mac more. - sdavis81AspirantOk, I would like to just bring this up again to see if there may be any other suggestions.
I tried the new beta 4.1.10 T3 and still had the same issues copying files. I reinstalled 4.1.8 and had same issue. I am doing this over AFP. Quick recap: I was having trouble with file access earlier this year with TIme Machine. Fixing this required a reset to factory of the NAS, and then updated the firmware to 4.1.9 and then put my files back on from a backup.
Specifically I have 2 folders, one for raw video files, the other for completed movies. When I try to copy new events into either, a circle with a line through it comes up and it won't let me put files in there. When I try to move the files OUT of these folders, a box comes up saying Finder wants permission and asks for username and password to continue. The user name is filled out and is the name of my Mac. It seems to accept my Mac password but the files don't copy. It will not accept the Readynas "admin" and Password. So I basically can't copy into or out of my old folders, seemingly in either 4.1.8, 4.1.9, or 4.1.10 T3.
I would like to keep my files organized and not scattered all over. Can this issue be fixed? Is this related to the reset I had to do, or that these files came from my backup? Any other things I can try?
Thanks for any help - sdavis81AspirantI would very much appreciate any help someone may give on this permission issue.
It looks like my machine autoupdated to latest firmware last night so I will need to change that setting if I am to need the old firmware, although from what I could see that did not make a difference. - KneichionAspirantI am having the same Problem.
I need to delete a load of files.
I am loged in as admin and admin on the ReadyNAS NV+
But keeps saying I don't have permission to complete this request.
I see the above post is a few weeks old.
Would be helpful if Netgear staff replied.
I have two ReadyNAS Drives they are not cheap. - OOM-9NETGEAR ExpertWhat protocols are you using? Have you tried to reset the permissions for the files/folders?
You will want to try to have the permissions be set for the file/folder permissions to be open at the file level. There is an option in the Advanced CIFs and AFP options to reset the permissions upon create or write to the NAS. The other part to check is the Advanced tab to reset the ownership of the files/folders on the folder level.
Advanced CIFs/AFP settings: Page 61
Reset Ownership and permissions: Page 62 (The default owner and group are nobody and nogroup)

+Kneichion, have you opened a ticket up with support? - alashInitiateI am having similar permissions problems since an auto upgrade to 4.1.9 occurred recently. I upgraded to 4.1.10 which did not fix it and then I downgraded to 4.1.8 and still permissions are messed up. I've even gone in and reset permissions on each Mac and reset ownership on the folder level in the Advanced tab for each of my Shares which fixes files that are currently on the Share but not new files added or saved to the Share. New files and folders either have "Read only" or "custom access" which means I can't even see what the permissions are. What a mess, my team and I can't work using the nas because we can't share anything. What the heck happened and what the heck do I do to fix it?
- alashInitiateIt's been two weeks with no new news on what to do about the 4.1.9 ownership/permissions problem. Can I get some administrator love? (I'm really tired of having to "reset ownership and permission for existing files and folders" in Advanced Options over and over again so my workgroup and I can get any work done.)
