Cannot view system data files in ReadyNAS 104
Hi, everyone!
I'm having the above mentioned problem, and I've looked everywhere for a solution. However, none of the replies in similar threads seem to apply to me.
I'm running Windows 7 on my PC and ReadyNAS 6.1.6 on my NAS. What I'm trying to do is to access the NAS' system files (root directory), because I'm having some problems with the Plex Media Server application (which generates a log file that's supposed to be located in /c/.plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Logs). Regardless, though, access would be nice.
When I enter "\\nasIP\c" or "\\nasIP\data" in the Run prompt in Windows, as I've seen suggested other places, I get nothing ("The network path was not found"). When I enter \\nasIP and log in as admin (I've changed the password from default), I get my shares and home folders, but no system files. I can't find any way to access them via the http admin panel either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

- vandermerweMasterYou need to enable ssh, then use something like putty to login as root.
You really must know exactly what you are doing and it doesn't sound like you do. If you cause a problem with the NAS, netgear support can legitimately decline support. - BestTurtleAspirantThank you for the reply, condescension aside. It appears from other threads that ReadyNAS allows access to the system files via SMB. Is that no longer true?
- vandermerweMasterWhich threads?
- vandermerweMasterThere is a way to enable this type of access, it also involves ssh though.

Is there no other way you can sort plex out? - BestTurtleAspirantHere's one:

Edit: Oh, I see you already found it. - BestTurtleAspirantI guess I'll have to see if I can make the necessary changes through SSL while remaining confident that I'm not going to brick my ReadyNAS, then.
- vandermerweMasterYes, that's what I posted, I found that post recently as there was another user who also wanted to hack the OS.
You still need to ssh in to the box and make changes to the OS.
If you are going to do this, make sure you have a current backup of your data. - BestTurtleAspirantRegarding Plex, it seems I need the debug log in order to determine what's wrong in the first place. I can try to reproduce the error with a locally installed server, though, so I haven't exhausted all options. I will look into it further tomorrow. Thanks for your assistance.
- siignaNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you just want to view the Plex logs for now, you can take advantage of the NAS file browser. This URL should work, change your address and volume name to be appropriate:
"https://<NAS_address>/browse.html#path=%2F<volume_name>%2F.apps%2Fplexmediaserver%2FMediaLibrary%2FPlex%20Media%20Server%2FLogs" - siignaNETGEAR Employee Retired

You should be able to access the root volume via SMB. Same as pre-OS6, just login as the local NAS admin.vandermerwe wrote: There is a way to enable this type of access, it also involves ssh though.

I'm looking at some 6.1.6 boxes here, and that work around should not be needed.
