I am having an issue with my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 and WDTV Live, all with latest Firmware etc etc: After pretty much 30mins (i have timed it) the WDTV will stop seeing the ReadyNAS and I will have to go to setup and refind the DNLA media server running on the ReadyNAS. I have tested this using a simple windows share on my Laptop and the WDTV live has no problems streaming and doesn't drop out, so it must be a setting on the ReadyNAS . . . . Any Clues? :(
I also run Plex aswell as Netgears DNLA on the NAS and experience exactly the same issue

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserPersonally I would use CIFS with the WDTV live, and not use DLNA.
- gezzyboyAspirantThanks Steve, I don't know how to do that: I have CIFS NFS AFP FTP/S HTTP/S set to read/write for my media folder, but when I turn off the DNLA service the WDTV cannot see any media servers including the Plex, sorry I'm new to this! I would prefer not to have to workaround a service that I bought the unit to use, if you can understand
- vandermerweMasterReadyDLNA 1.1.0 is the latest version.
- gezzyboyAspirantHas anyone tried Skifta as an alternative to readyDNLA?
- vandermerweMasterYou probably won't like this suggestion, but have you considered custom firmware for your wdtv live. It seems the standard network options are very limited in the standard firmware. There is at least one custom firmware which seems to offer many more options. It may take some learning and effort to get it set up but if it improves your devices functionality it may be worth it.

..is an example. It allows you to mount nfs shares too, nfs should give you better performance. - gezzyboyAspirantmmm Blimey! looks a bit scarey, I only want to watch movies & Tv episodes on my WDTV streaming from the NAS and that's about all, not sure if its worth that time investment but cheers anyway!

See page 26 of your wdtv manual (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/U ... 705062.pdf) When you select a content source, you choose "network share" and not "media server". There is no need for custom firmware.gezzyboy wrote: Thanks Steve, I don't know how to do that: I have CIFS NFS AFP FTP/S HTTP/S set to read/write for my media folder, but when I turn off the DNLA service the WDTV cannot see any media servers including the Plex, sorry I'm new to this! Personally I don't consider CIFS access a workaround, often you get a better experience with CIFS or NFS with media players. If the player has direct access to the folder, then it is solely responsible for the UI presentation and features. - gezzyboyAspirantThanks Steve for the suggestion, I would like to explore fixing my issue first, which if it worked and did not keep dropping out would be perfectley acceptable.I like using the Plex media server also around the house, but it has the same issue with the WDTV (curiosly not my mobile devices)
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI understand. But trying the network share approach gives useful information on troubleshooting dlna.
If the network share also disconnects, then that suggests a network problem. If it works well, then that suggests something in the NAS.
You are running ReadyDLNA and Plex in the same NAS? Also, you are using WiFi to connect to the WDTV? - gezzyboyAspirantCheers Steve, I did setup a windows share withthe WDTV with no problems or drop outs and I don't have probs sharing from Plex on mobile devices on the network over wifi, so I wonder if it is the Ready DNLA at fault?
