Gmail SMTP setup
Hi guys. I'm trying to set up my nas on the smtp.gmail.com. My dsl changed again and I can't remember what the hell that account is anymore and it doesn't work, so I'm going with this one now.

Anyway, I set that up with and without a port setting, and my user info, but I still don't get any alerts...can you help me out, thanks.
Just a side note. I used the settings in the evolution email client to check and make sure that I get my mail, and that works fine. I canceled it after it started downloading all of the messages though, but I know that works. If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

- if you use google smtp, check your SENT folder on gmail, they do not show up in your inbox
- jaime1AspirantThanks guys. I checked my sent box on gmail, I don't have anything there from the alerts.. As for the firmware, well, I guess timing is everything. I'm studying for a midterm next week and it looks like they have been working on that firmware for a bit so I guess it won't hurt me to wait a bit longer until it's out of beta since I just can't mess with that at the moment.

I was having problems with TLS and Gmail using T70... alerts were sent but never received. However, my problem was corrected in T74, and email alerts now leave my ReadyNAS and appear in my .mac inbox almost instantly. :) - kossbossGuide===READYNAS SMTP:===
Look up smtp server and port settings in google and dont forget to check in those settings if you need ssl(tls) enabled with google search.
If you need ssl, then check the tls checkbox. If you need tls also check the tls checkbox.
Example of the google search:
"gmail smtp settings" or "verizon.net smtp settings" etc.

Imagine I have the following account from yahoo.
kossboss@yahoo.com
password: whocares
And lets say I want 2 of my alerts to recieve the email: kossboss@yahoo.com and kostia@email.com.
What will happen is the NAS will use the smtp settings of yahoo, and send out emails from kossboss@yahoo.com.
The trick with emails, the reason we have to fill this stuff out instead of just tell the nas who to email when an alert happens - we also need to tell the nas who to email from - every email comes from some email server.
* Alert Contact 1 ( Who will recieve the alert): kossboss@yahoo.com
* Alert Contact 2 ( Who will recieve the alert): kostia@email.com
* Email Provider: Custom
* User (just the username name of the account your sending from): kossboss
* Password (password of the account your sending from): whocares
* SMTP (smtp settings of the account your sending from - this is what your google search should lead you to): smtp.verizon.net
* SMTP PORT (smtp port of the account your sending from - this is another item your google search should result in): 465
* From (this is the full email address from your sending): kossboss@yahoo.com
* Use TLS (since yahoo said i need to use ssl to use their smtp server to send emails out, i needed to check this): Check
If the provider wanted me to send out TLS, then I would check that as well - obviously
So everytime an alert happens the following 2 emails go out:
email 1 from: kossboss@yahoo.com
email 1 to: kossboss@yahoo.com
email 2 from: kossboss@yahoo.com
email 2 to: kostia@@email.com
Notice the first email is just a looped back email - its okay to do that.
I hope that helps out everyone figure out the SMTP alert settings
