How do I do a full restore of [c] from attched USB drive?
I have full backup defined as
Source: [c]
Destination: USB_HDD_3
After factory default, I want to restore the entire [c] volume. When I try to create a backup job to do that, I see the source USB_HDD_1 (it is the same USB drive, but the Duo has renamed it after a reset)
I don't see [c] as an available destination. I see the shares on [c] but not [c].
If I select USB_HDD_1 as source (the shares on this drive are not selectable) and say, Media share on [c] as destination, then the entire content of USB_HDD_1 gets copied into the Media share, which meses up the directory structure.
How do I restore all of [c] from USB_HDD_1?

- alokeprasadMentorHi,
Any ideas why I am not seeing "Volume: c" as a valid destination when creating a Restore job?
Backing up to USB drive is all well and good .. but I am having to copy files from my USB drive to the c volume by drag-n-drop. Not ideal, as it routes the files over the network and back through my PC. - ReadySECUREApprenticeDoes it show you iSCSI Volume: c? For some reason, I've noticed that it adds the word iSCSI to the front of it when it isn't really iSCSI.
- my understanding that you can not do a restore to c, you must restore each share individually
- chirpaLuminaryYou don't want to restore to iSCSI, that won't let files be available to shares, etc.
Tekno is correct. You can backup a full volume, but restore has to be to individual shares. - alokeprasadMentorSo, I'll have to create the destination shares manually and restore each one using different defined backup jobs?
Somewhat inconvenient... - chirpaLuminaryYes...
- alokeprasadMentorI still have a problem:
I have the following shares defined on [c:]
- Common
LT_backup
media
PC_backup
The attached (front USB port) USB drive is USB_HDD_1.
USB_HDD_1 has the sub-directories created when I backup "Volume: c :" to the USB_HDD_1: Common, home, lost+found, LT_Backup, media, PC_backup
When I try to define a new backup job to restore, I see the following choices for "Source"
- Remote: (a number of these, that I'm sure don't apply to me)
Share: Common
Share: USB_HDD_1
Share: LT_backup
Share: media
Share: PC_backup
Volume: c
USB device: (Front port)
USB device: (Rear left port)
USB device: (Rear right port)
The following choices are available for "Destination"
Remote: (a number of these, that I'm sure don't apply to me)
- Share: Common
Share: USB_HDD_1
Share: LT_backup
Share: media
Share: PC_backup
USB device: (Front port)
USB device: (Rear left port)
USB device: (Rear right port)
Now, if I select "Source = Share: USB_HDD_1" and "Destination = Share: media", the entire content of USB_HDD_1 gets copied to share "media"
How do I select a specific directory on USB_HDD_1 when restoring back to the share on c:?
For example, I need to select "media" on USB_HDD_1 as source when I select "Share: media" as the destination. I cannot do that currently. I cannot select USB_HDD_1/media as the source.
How should I proceed?
Aloke
PS: Wouldn't all this have been simple if the " Volume: c" was available as the destination, just like it is available a source of backups? alokeprasad wrote:

You would set the "Path" field to "media" without the quotes.
If you need a sub sub folder, you would use linux path:

Wait, so what would be the point of backing up the full volume if you can't restore it? Or are you saying that you can restore everything in the full volume except the shares? Does backing up the full volume also grab the shares data too? If so, that would imply that you have two copies of the shares data if you manually back them up in addition to the full volume backup job. Is there a guide that walks you through the process? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think the point is that you can restore the USB backup, you just need to do it in pieces (one share at a time).
