I can't regain ownership of files
Hi.
I have just upgraded from a Duov1 to a RN102, latest firmware on both.
I transferred my old data to new nas using nfs backup to push from old to new nas.
I basically use ftp to connect and upload / download
I mainly use the nas as a media server.
Since transferring the data I cannot rename / delete the files from the 102 via ftp.
I have tried different combinations of permission in the share settings however it is not as explicit as the old nas.
I appear to have a 't' at the end of the permissions on my sub folders that i can't clear (not sure if this is significant)
The 'owner' of my files on the old nas is called something different to the new nas and the 102 won't let me take complete ownership of my data.
I'm a bit stuck.
If anyone gets the gist of what I'm getting at and needs some more info I will be happy to help
Thanks
David

- vandermerweMasterCan you possibly rerun the backup as rsync and set the "change ownership " box when you do it.
Also you could change the owner and group on the duo to match the ones you want on the 104, then rerun the backup - as rsync as this should change the owner/ group. - david2014AspirantThanks for replying so quickly!
That could be an option. I have got the old disks out of the old nas at the moment as I have been scanning them to recover a deleted file (mistakenly deleted).
Is there another way of changing ownership using the 102? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserGo to the share settings from the web admin gui, and then select file access. You'll see a reset control on the left that will reset the owner/group of all files to guest/guest.
You can also enable ssh, and use that. - david2014AspirantI've tried resetting the permissions with the web GUI and it only appears to work for the share folder and nothing inside. There is still a lower case t at the end of the file permissions. When I go to delete It still won't let me. Even if I retake ownership using the GUI. Maybe I should use ssh but that would mean refreshing my linux knowledge!
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you try the "reset" control? Just entering the owner/group on on the gui and entering OK is not the same at all.
"reset" will change the owner/group to guest/guest recursively for every file/folder in the share.
What firmware are you running? - david2014AspirantHi Stephen,
Thank you for taking the time over this...
The firmware is 6.1.8
Yes I have used the reset button and also just again now.
So for the share "Music" the permissions are drwxrwxrwx guest/guest
Subfolder (Artist) drwxrwxrwt
Subfolder (Album) drwxrwxrwt
File (Song) -rwxrwxrwx
Grant rename and delete privilages of non owner of files is checked
Both subfolders have the "t" on the end
I still can't rename/delete files (Songs) using ftp
BTW. FTP has everyone as read/write - david2014AspirantSo I have been using putty to remove the "t" bit. I have tried it on the Artist and Album folder and GREAT! I can rename/delete files.
Just several hundred folders to change unless anyone can help out with a recursive function? - david2014AspirantI have also used ssh to change the owner of all the files folders in the share to
Owner = root
Group = root
Instead of guest.
It's a shame the GUI is not a bit more powerful but I guess I have learnt a few basic terminal commands. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserMight be better to set them to admin/admin.
- david2014AspirantThanks for your help StephenB.
I have reset the owner to admin/admin across the shares.
Just another quick question...
I select the check box "Specify permission when new file/folder is created...." in the default access card on the share
and choose Folder owner/folder group (admin/admin) as the default permissions.
I then upload a file using my own username, check the owner via putty and notice it doesn't change the file to admin/admin it stays as my name/my group of my username.
Am I misunderstanding this default permissions card?
