I have 3 readynas devices connected via ethernet to a switch. My iMac is connected to the switch as well. The iMac sees all 3 readynas devices in finder. When I open finder and navigate to a .m4v video file on the nas, I can drag the name into iTunes. At this point iTunes can play the video and the icon next to the video file in finder is the first frame of the video. After about 10 minutes, the finder window changes from displaying the folder to displaying the root folder. The file in iTunes now displays with a '!' next to it and if I click on the file name in finder, nothing happens. It's almost as if the computer had temporarily lost its connection to the nas. Any ideas?

Hello, I'm new here, and having the same problems as the OP.I'm running a ReadyNAS Duo, RAIDar 4.3.4 on OS X Lion. AFP protocol.....although I don't know is another is preferred. Any help would be appreciated! This happens during large file transfers, or just after time. I have both an iMac and Macbook air connected to the NAS share and both behave the same. Especially frustrating is iTunes constantly losing track of files and giving the '!' next to all of the songs.Thanks,Dennis

Just a thought. I had the same problem, my MacPro would drop connections with my ReadyNAS Pro 4. The problem turned out to be my network settings on my Mac. I had the hardware setting form the ethernet connection set manually, along with the jumbo frames set to 9000. After setting the hardware settings to automatic the problem went away. A simple solution in my case. Mike

I have the same problem except that I'm connected wirelessly. Lightroom (Pictures) and iTunes both lose contact with the files on the NAS after several minutes of inactivity. Per the previous poster I checked my network hardware settings and they were already set to automatic. I'm very disappointed because I thought a cure had been found.My PC never loses contact; my MacBook Pro losing contact is a major pain in the a$$.

I used to have bunch of problems with CIFS/SMB, and changed to AFP. I now only have AFP and HTTPS enabled in "Services", and have a small AppleScript to mount the shares on my OSX desktop. Every shares has the following in the script;

mount volume "afp://BMK-rnp (AFP)._afpovertcp._tcp.local/Data"

Data is the share name.

This is working absolutely fantastic; it is fast, I never have hang-ups, and I have been through all the FWs the latest two years, as well as all updates on OSX (also works on ML).

KillerBob the thing is though that your NAS units (at least the ones listed in your sig) are x86 units. Do you still have Sparc units (e.g. Duo/NV+ v1) in use?

Hi mdgm,

Why would that make a difference? I would think it has to do with the protocols and the FW on the NAS. I had the same setup with my NV+, but that's a few years ago.

My ReadyNAS NV+ just started dropping connections on 3/10. I'm using Raidator 4.1.8. Previously, I would blame my LinkSys WRT610N router which I no longer own. I have CIFS and AFP enabled protocols since I use Windows 7 and Snow Leopard computers.

The connections appears to have stabilized after shutting down my Dell laptop which were connected via Ethernet to the Router. The connections are stable and I intend to leave the laptop powered down. I need to do more testing using a wireless connections on the laptop and check stability.

Why would a Windows 7 laptop connected via Ethernet make the NV+ unstable?
