Moved drives from Pro 6 to Ultra 6 in same order, volume now missing

I thought if you had the same firmware installed on an intel unit you could move from a pro 6 to an ultra 6 as long as you kept the disks in the same order. I did just that and upon boot up it says remove inactive disks. It's resyncing though and all disks show as red (none of them failed or show that they aren't working correctly.)

Was I unaware of the process? I have all my important stuff backed up obviously but I'm a little miffed as to the procedure as I thought it was pretty straight forward.

Is there a simple way of SSH'ing in to fix the issue. And of course there is no warranty and I doubt netgear support would bother to help since it's running OS 6 on a legacy unit.

It's also frustrating because I feel like a wealth of information could be shared to help out in these instances but it all is hidden under the "contact netgear support"...

So for future reference I just want to be clear can you not move disks from a pro 6 to an ultra 6 that are in the same order and placement in the units running the same exact firmware (6.4.2 RC1) without issue?

Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

While migrating disks should work fine. If the unit you are migrating from is working it is advisable to update your backup first.

      I'll send you the logs.

I tried putting the drives back into the original pro 6 and it did the same thing (said remove inactive drives, showed all 3 as red and then was re-syncing.)

Not sure what the problem is.

If you look in smart_history.log you will see that one of the disks is failing.

This is likely the cause of the problem.

Migrating disks from one chassis to another working smoothly relies on the disks being fine and the OS, array, volume(s) etc. on the disks being fine too. If there is a problem with any of these it will remain when moving across to another chassis.

SeaGate 8TB archive disks are not recommended for use in multiple disk systems.

When it comes to situations where one needs to proceed carefully, it is best handled by support. Obviously that's not possible in this instance as your are running OS6 on a legacy device.

I have sent you a PM.
