Need Updated Info for iSCSi installation in 5.1 ESXi
I was trying to install iSCSi support on my 5.1 ESXi host and noticed that the option for installing iSCSi datastores located on the readynas has changed. I was following along with this document up until the "5th" slide regarding "creating a iscsi datastore on the readynas" to associate with the ESXi host:
http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... p4bA%3D%3D
If you'll notice, the document describes how the "properties" button should be pressed after choosing a storage adapter; the option appears to be "missing" in ESXi 5.1. If I'm missing something, please let me know...
Additionally, a video I found on youtube (this one shows how a FreeNAS server was able to have it's iSCSi connected added to the ESXi host) showed iSCSi being successfully mounted on an ESXi host (I'm guessing this was probably ESXi 4.x ore something like that): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc20IT1msAk
Beginning at 6:12, you can see how the "property" option is available in VmWare 4.x, but again, is not available in 5.1 (unless I've overlooked something).
Has anyone recently linked iSCSi from a ReadyNAS device to a datastore on ESXi 5.1?
Thanks.
Jay

- jay_johnsonAspirantJust noticed that I need to establish an "Initiator IQn;" I haven't dealt too much with storage as of late, so I'm now looking for how to accomplish this task; more to follow :-)
Jay - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredFirst make sure you have updated to the latest firmware (currently 4.2.24)
- jay_johnsonAspirantHey, mdgm!! Long time, no talk to... :-)
Per our last conversation (many moons ago), I'd actually updated my firmware to it's present state (4.2.21).
Okay, as I went further into this, it appears that what's "not" mentioned in the documentation is that you have to click "add" to add a new iSCSi adapter; once that adapter is added, "then" the properties option is displayed... Additionally, there's a typo at the point to when you are adding your new iSCSi target to the datastore, the directions tell you to choose the "Network File System" although the option is marked "Disk/Lun" (no biggie) :-)
Overall, I figured it out and got my iSCSi storage configured. If time permits, I'll screenshot what I did via another iSCSi entry... :-)
As always, thanks for checking in... :-)

More to follow...
jay - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThere is an issue with 4.2.21 on 32-bit systems such as the NVX which means you should update to 4.2.24. Certainly if you wish to expand your volume you should update to 4.2.24 before adding disks.
