NV+ 4.1.10 upgrade failed
I have just had a similar problem to others on here after upgrading their NV+ to 4.1.10 - unit says 'Booting....' and then just hangs indefinitely with no sign of activity and cannot be seen RAIDar. I had to perform a USB downgrade to 4.1.8 and the unit is now coming up.
As I'm not alone here, is there an issue with 4.1.10?

- christopher2AspirantOne last follow-up from me on my situation... After getting my NV to boot up by swapping out the larger SODIMM and other futzing, and loaded some new data and started an incremental backup. The NV became nonresponsive during the backup and would not respond even after multiple reboots. I think that my mistake was asking the NV to dump its logs while the backup was running.
So, I did a USB downgrade of the firmware to 4.1.8. This didn't correct the trouble so I did a firmware reinstall (press back reset button while powering up, release at first blink) -- like the USB downgrade this is an action that doesn't affect configuration or data. That firmware reinstall put everything right and I am back on 4.1.8.
I have turned off notifications for newer firmware releases. I will leave this device at 4.1.8.
My imepetus for upgrading to 4.1.10 was to get ReadyNAS Remote working again -- it broke when Netgear upgraded the ReadyNAS Remote service on their server. I have also simply turned off that add-on and I have resigned myself to no longer being able to remotely access the NV.
Netgear has really screwed up with their latest softare upgrades: RAIDiator and ReadyNAS Remote. The product itself is solid--I have never lost any data--but their current software guys need to be replaced.
One final PS: after the NV became non-responsive the second time, I opened a ticket with Netgear support. Given that my NV is 8 years old, I must admit that they were very responsive and were willing to remote into the NV and try to get it working again. I have ultimately declined their help and gone back to 4.1.8; but, I do appreciate their willingness to promptly support an 8 year old NV. - ReadyNASUserAspirant

Any comment on all this from NetGear... NV+ purchased 2008, same 1Gb of Kingston memory as "christopher" installed at time of purchase; I'm on 4.1.9 with no problems... should I "risk" the upgrade or is 4.1.11 in the works to remove what appears to be a consistent issue with 4.1.10 and 1Gb NV+ configurations... - christopher2AspirantI suggest that you go to the support website and open a ticket, asking them to comment. In my experience they'll response in a business day.
- maxblackAspirantBut I think the answer is that they only support the 1GB systems that they've sold, not user-upgraded units. Some here have had zero problems with 1GB; I suspect there is a sensitivity to memory type...
- christopher2AspirantNote: after downgrading to 4.1.8 I was able to reinstall the 1 GB SODIMM.
- ProbieAspirantI have the same problem - 4.1.10 hangs during boot (Nv+ v1 with 1GB RAM).
I have to remove disk 4 in order to get it to boot.
There are some kind of bug in 4.1.10. (I've had 1GB for ages and it has worked perfect until 4.1.10 was installed)
I'm currently reverting to 4.1.9 and hope that will help. If not, I'll try 4.1.8. - kiritAspirantIs there a problem with firmware 4.1.10 for Nas 1100?

Thanks - jhp960011Aspirant4.1.10 firmware is broken.
After two months of back and forth with Netgear tech support, My NAS is finally back up and running. I spent a whole lot of time with support, who had me spend several $100s buying new RAM and hard drives only to find 4.1.10 does not work with NVs and 4 hard drives. On a whim, I went back to a previous firmware and it worked! I came to the forums, and low and behold the folks in this thread found the same problem. Will Netgear fix this? - ReadyNASUserAspirant

Please..pretty please...
I even got new RAM and installed it... but I can't afford the time to deal with a failed upgrade right now... - jdupreyAspirantI've had a similar problem reported here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=69935
Sounds like my options are to do a factory reset and go from there?
