NV+ 4.1.10 upgrade failed
I have just had a similar problem to others on here after upgrading their NV+ to 4.1.10 - unit says 'Booting....' and then just hangs indefinitely with no sign of activity and cannot be seen RAIDar. I had to perform a USB downgrade to 4.1.8 and the unit is now coming up.
As I'm not alone here, is there an issue with 4.1.10?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWell try that. Turn the unit off, disconnect power for 5-10 minutes, reconnect power and power on.
- christopher2AspirantAlready tried that before posting here. No worries... my wife will simply have to live without the network drive (which has our music library) until I return home in a couple of weeks.
I would not normally have done an upgrade remotely; but, I've been trying to get ReadyNAS Remote to work and upgrading to the latest RAIDiator was part of trying to get it working (I am trying to get access to some files for my work). The worst of it is that ReadyNAS Remote was working fine until Netgear did something to their Remote server that has broken the service (see other posts elsewhere in the forums for other users with this issue). - jbartcAspirantSuccess!! I did a factory default. This finally enabled the unit to recognize all four drives. It then took several hours to resync the volume. Once that resync completed successfully, I downloaded an image of the 4.1.10 firmware update to my computer and did a local update on the ReadyNAS. That completed successfully. I restored my configuration from backup and I am now reloading the files to the ReadyNAS from backup.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredchristopher normally remotely upgrading the firmware would be fine. I haven't had any issues doing that myself.
As for the Remote issues once you get the NAS back up and running I guess that could be looked into. By comparing the configuration etc. with a working system the problem should hopefully be easy to identify. - iposnerAspirant4.1.9 and 4.1.10 - Two flakey releases in a row beset with problems.
Quality control seems to have gone out the window here. I don't think that Netgear quite understand the importance of ensuring that the vault of people's digital assets has to be robust, not laden with features.
This is why my new NAS is an HP Microserver with the robust FreeNAS operating system on it. Sure, it doesn't quite yet have all the media streaming capabilities of RAIDiator but the core file storage and sharing capabilities are years ahead. And it's robust. - christopher2AspirantI got the ReadyNAS NV back up and running this evening. I had to remove the 1 gig SODIMM and put the original 256 meg SODIMM back into the device. Once I swapped the RAM, the device came right up on 4.1.10. All of the data looks to be intact.
I then swapped the RAM and put the 1 gig SODIMM back in the unit; but, 4.1.10 will NOT boot up. So, I have put the 256 meg RAM back in. With the 1 gig SODIMM installed, the unit starts power on with a fast flash of the power button LED, then goes to a slow flash, and goes no further.
I suspect that Netgear has done something to the POST that is causing it to fail wtih anything other than the original SODIMM installed. The 1 gig SODIMM I installed has worked fine for the past 5 years. It's Kingston p/n KVR333SO/1GR - maxblackAspirantThe only time I ever had a problem w/my NV+ was when attempting to update the firmware, with a new 1GB SODIMM installed. I had certainly done extensive memory tests on that SODIMM, and it appeared to be perfect, but I still had an ugly failure trying to upgrade. Maybe just a coincidence, but in any case it spooked me and I returned my NV+ to original 256MB and have not looked back.
- christopher2AspirantOne follow-up: after upgrading to 4.1.10, CIFS authentication appears to now only allow NTLMv2 clients to connect. I have an old Audiotron MP3 player that mounts an SMB share and to get it to connect I had to remove the password from its userid, plus I had to download and install the ToggleCaseSensitivity_1.0 add-on. So, something is dreadfully wrong with 4.1.10 and no one should upgrade to it unless specifically directed by Netgear as part of solving some other problem.
I'm gonig to call Netgear today to try and get this system working properly again. - avpman1AspirantI'm having exactly the same problem. NV+ will only boot if one of the four drives is removed. Downgrading firmware to 4.1.8 fixes it (4.1.9 also has the bug.) NV+ has the 1gb upgrade.
jbartc: the problem is not specific to your fourth drive, remove any drive and it will reboot w/o a problem. Try to revert your firmware to 4.1.8 then reboot your NV+ with the 4th drive installed. It should boot and re-sync. The link to 4.1.8 is: http://www.readynas.com/download/RAIDiator/RAIDiator-4.1.8
good luck
p.s. if you have auto update enabled you might want to disable it before downgrading. - Putting the stock RAM in fixed my two NV+ V1 that were hung at booting also.
Two different sticks of RAM (Kingston and Corsair) and am still running the same models in my other NV+'s without issues. Also, the two NV+'s that were exhibiting this issue were my oldest and newest units.
