NV 4x1TB -> 4x2TB nightmare! (#10777660)
Here's what I have done so far
I have a readynas NV
It has 4x1TB (xraid) 4.1.6
1) I bought 4 new 2TB drives
2) Replaced each drive one at a time
3) Rebuilt successfully after each drive replacement
4) RAID begun expansion after 4th drive was put in.
5) Never properly expanded
6) Found out I had the wrong block size so, I would need to do a factory reset (a very old device)
7) Backed up ALL data to external hard drives
8) Factory reset
9) Rebuilt okay
10) Restored old config
11) Became unresponsive
12) Factory reset again -- unresponsive -- says root corrupted
13) USB reset -- looks like it works.
14) reboot, I get two LEDs blink, then four LEDs, then two, etc...
15) check dimm -- seated okay
15) try tFTP reset -- loads up okay
16) upon reboot, it never comes back up.
17) reboot, I get two LEDs blink, then four LEDs, then two, etc...
18) USB reset -- looks like it works.
19) reboot, I get two LEDs blink, then four LEDs, then two, etc...
Please help. These are new drives, and work fine outside of the NAS with no problems. I'm at ends wit!
Thanks,
Eric

I wondered about this firmware version too. Apparently it is 4.1.6, just written using the old format. See viewtopic.php?f=35&t=36018elinenbe wrote:
Also, the Netgear support hasn't gotten back to me in almost 4 days, so I'm pretty much left hanging with $800 in drives, and a unit that seems not to accept them no matter what I do.
Did you try using the stock standard memory (256MB)? - elinenbeAspirantI haven't checked the memory model, but I looked around for the stock memory and it seems I no longer have it. Though, before I started using the new drives I had at least 4 years of reliable usage.
So, last night I rebooted the device, and RAIDar showed it as booting, and the power light was slowly fading on-off. This morning it is still showing the same behavior (not sure if it was a disk check or something). I will attempt to reboot again. - elinenbeAspirantAnd this time it came back up corrupt root...
- elinenbeAspirantAnd here are my logs from after what I thought was my latest successful attempt: http://www.linenberg.com/System_log_xraid_all_4_at_once.zip. This was before any reboots.
- elinenbeAspirantI received a replacement memory module -- though a 512MB one -- from a friend in our company's IT department. I then swapped out my 1GB module for this 512MB one, and ran the factory setup again: RAID-X with all four drives in it. It seems okay-- but I've been here before. I'm going to create some shares and reboot, and see what happens once I start copying data...
- elinenbeAspirantOK. So now, I am copying data from a wired connection, and after about 1.3GB of data, it said "Device no longer accessible". The readyNAS could not be accessed via the web interface or via the SMB/CIFS share. I had gotten to this point in the past, but this time I had already installed the ssh add-on. I ssh'd to the device, and rebooted it that way.
It came back up fine, and then I again started copying data. Again, the data copy crapped out, and when I tried to access the readyNAS via the web GUI, it kept giving me "RAID sync starting" messages over and over, and over...
Also, when I now try and pull down the logs I get:
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
<payload>Empty No Support</payload>"
Could someone please help me? Is there any solution for my problems? The official support has been so far unhelpful. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAre you running 4.1.6? Can you try doing a remote or local update in Frontview (do local update if currently running 4.1.6) to 4.1.6?

Can you check to see if it's related to this:
http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=260 - elinenbeAspirantOK. So, I was able to pull the logs (found here: http://www.linenberg.com/System_log_latest.zip, and configure it a bit. Then I tried the update that I downloaded from http://www.readynas.com/?p=2620 and it rebooted as 4.01c1-p6 and was pretty much unresponsive in the web GUI. I tried to copy files to the unit, and it locked up again. Upon reboot I got "corrupt root again".
I then did a factory reset, once again, and set it up as X-RAID with all four drives in the device. Netgear now has gotten back to me with a remote tech support mode request. I have configured the unit for this, and am waiting on them. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired

That's the old way of writing 4.1.6elinenbe wrote:

Hopefully they can work out what it is. It would be nice to read what the solution is.
