OS6.5.2 → 6.6.0 after the update, Volume is no longer recognized #27640242

I just updated to 6.6.0 on my RN104 and now all my hard drives are red in the System>Volumes menu. I can't access any of my data. How do I fix this? I don't have any backups and I have 8TB of data on this NAS.

I'd contact support, and emphasize that the firmware upgrade caused this problem.

  • And if I lost all my files I don't want this NAS anymore. 15 years of files gone. I'll just change to cloud based storage.

It's quite likely your data is intact, and that the NAS for some reason decided it couldn't mount the RAID array.

      I'd contact support.

RAID isn't enough to keep your data safe, you do need backups as well.  I wish it were otherwise, but its not.

Combining the NAS with cloud storage for backup makes some sense, since you get the speed of local access together with an inexpensive off-site copy of your data.

  • Have called Netgear 4 times and they hung up on me "by mistake" every time. I can't seem to be able to talk to anyone. They transfer me to the business department and it hangs up.

I will never buy a netgear product again. Worst customer care I've ever tried to contact. I lost all my files due to their firmware update and they don't want to talk to me to help me. Time to take a sledge hammer to the Readynas 10400 so nobody else is stuck with this problem.

I can see your logs are attached to your case #27640242

One of your hard disks has increasing command timeouts (see smart_history.log)

But what I find concerning is your initrd.log:

I suspect the problem might be with the RAM. Have you run the memory test? See How do I access the boot menu on my ReadyNAS 104, 204, 214, or 314?

  • I upgraded my system to 6.6.0 and all volumes as gone as posted here earlier.

Anyone that got their volumes back ?

semala02 your issue is different. You might wish to see if 6.6.1 Beta makes any difference for you.

  • I started from scratch and lost everything. I don't trust the readynas now so I'm using cloud based storage now.

I understand in your case wtobiason that support reviewed your case and proposed doing a hardware check of your system, but the case was closed after you didn't agree to do that.
