OSX Maveric and RN 516 - smb problem #25261052
Hello, I have a RN 516, with firmware 6.1.9, but access from Mac OSC10.10 with smb is slow. is slow to show the folder, and copy files, also some folders do not give access privileges due (I also tried connecting with cifs but nothing changes). The network is a Gb Ethernet switches HP 1810. Other mac OSX 10.6.8 with the copying of files is good, but the folder view is always slow. Old windows Xp is quick to view the folders.
I thought I was set up two network cards in the NAS BOND, but I do not know if this improves performance.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserTeaming (what you are calling "NAS BOND") can improve performance when you have multiple users, but it will not improve performance if you only have a single user. Basically it only helps if the network connection between the NAS and the switch is the bottleneck. In many cases it isn't.
Did you try AFP?
It also sounds like you need to reset permissions in some of the shares. If you are using the default share permissions, there is a "reset" button in frontview you can use. Otherwise you might need to use ssh. The reset button is on the "file access" tab in the share settings. - nikowebAspirantThanks for the reply. The permissions are reset, but when I connect from Mac files and folders on the NAS are not seen immediately.
The Readynad516 is connected to a switch HP810-24G. Are connected to the switch: 1 PC windows XP, 1 Imac with Osx 10:10 Yosemite, 2 Imac with OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, especially from 10:10 Osx the connection is slow, shared folders appear slowly, copying the files is sometimes very long even for a few Kbytes. I also tried the protocol cifs: //, but the situation does not change.
I thought if there is a way to improve performance by creating a new BOND, but do not know which mode to use teaming (round-robin, IEEE802, etc.)
thanks
Niko - RXLuminaryWhat if you try to perform OS reinstall on your RN516 and it might help. Check this link as reference guide in doing OS reinstall: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23005
- nikowebAspirantSo the solution would be to reinstall Os of readynas? My readynas is new and the problem has always been there on Snowleopard, now with Yosemite the situation has worsened. It could be a problem Hw?
- RXLuminaryWe cannot yet conclude that its a problem with the hardware... Going back to your initial post, you mentioned that your old Windows XP is quick to view the folders unlike your MACs... give OS reinstall a try and it might help.
Try also connecting your RN516 directly to your MACs and check if same problem exists. - nikowebAspirantI will try to connect directly with imac Yosemite. Can I use a normal 5e Ethernet cable, not a crossover cable as they used to years ago.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe NICs are auto-sensing on all ReadyNAS. There has never been a need to use a crossover cable for direct connections though of course you can if you want to.
You may also wish to try 6.2.1
Perhaps also send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig). - nikowebAspirantThank You.
I tried to update to 6.2.2, but the problems do not change. Always slow connection from Maverick 10:10 and snow leopard 10.6.8. Windows XP is fine. I also tried to connect the NAS directly excluding the HUB but always goes slow. The volumes are 6 x 4 Gb in Raid 10. - RXLuminary

Since the connection from the Windows XP computer is still fine, are there any possible updates that could be done on the software driver of the ethernet adapter on the Maverick and Snow Leopard MACs? - nikowebAspirantI think it can be a problem mac, mac forums but the problem is only for maverick and Mountanlions and not for snowleopard. I also tried connecting cifs: // as recommended in some forum Apple (for maverick), but does not improve anything. viewing folders is slow, and sometimes copying files. Excluding the problem Hub, network (connecting directly readynas the problem remains), could be a problem mac or readynas (readynas log does not report errors).
Thinking that the problem is the Mac, I do not know if it was possible to improve performance by changing the configuration of the network adapters.
I'm desperate, I have to update all the mac to maverick to use Adobe Cc, but with 4 Mac maverick never be able to work.
