OSX Maveric and RN 516 - smb problem #25261052
Hello, I have a RN 516, with firmware 6.1.9, but access from Mac OSC10.10 with smb is slow. is slow to show the folder, and copy files, also some folders do not give access privileges due (I also tried connecting with cifs but nothing changes). The network is a Gb Ethernet switches HP 1810. Other mac OSX 10.6.8 with the copying of files is good, but the folder view is always slow. Old windows Xp is quick to view the folders.
I thought I was set up two network cards in the NAS BOND, but I do not know if this improves performance.
Grazie

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOne of your disks has a non-zero current pending sector count. Perhaps you have a failing/bad disk?
- nikowebAspirantI have to replace it as damaged and simply reformat.
Thank You - nikowebAspirantI am completely desperate. I do not know how to work, I have more than 3TB, I reset everything to the factory data, it took three days to copy all the files and folders, but still the usual problems, is completely unstable and unreliable, disappearing files and folders, change the access permissions, does not work either creating new backup and so on.
But someone similar problems?
After 10 months of my despair and my technician.
I think the answers are:
1- problem Hardware
2- Ready nas 516 not able to work, but to be used only for domestic backup.
I hope it is the first, it seems impossible that netgear produce products of unreliability, and I honestly do not even I would use for my house.
I believe I have ever seen in my life such a thing, not even the old WD network had these problems, and nememno my Xserve 10 years old. Help me !!! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI can see the directories on there that you indicated disappear. I don't think it is a hardware issue.
As for creating a USB backup see http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81001 - nikowebAspirantDirectories exist on the disk of NAS disappear from view on PCs and Macs, but on the side Broswer in administrative nas there. We tested the network, we have replaced the switch, and tried to connect nas directly to your computer, but does not change anything. Unfortunately there are constant problems but random, and we have difficulty diagnose.
I settled for backup as the post, I can understand if the bachup in usb disk was exactly the same as nas, removing deleted files on nas and replace changed files.
thanks
Nicola - nikowebAspirantYesterday I suddenly had trouble accessing from 2 mac. Now every day something happens absurd. User "administration" that has access to all folders and graphics to a folder "Administration" (containing the accounts). We tried to restart the Mac, but to no avail. The absurd thing is that one of the mac could connect I could read but not write. I tried several times to copy files, seemed to me an error message of course, in some cases, the files were copied in other cases, however, entirely copied but with Zero Kb. This morning it worked a bit ', then again the same problem . Then without rebooting anything I changed the password to the user administration and reset the permissions to the folder accounting and reconfigured accesses identical to the first. Now it works, but I do not know how long it will go on. Today will not let me save you from illustrator and photoshop, but the folder has read and write permissions. I have to re-configure the permissions to the shared folder so it works again. I throw this NAS. Never seen anything like in 30 years of my graphic design agency. If I take a stupid USB drive and share it on the network PC and Mac it works as a marvel. Or I restart my old xserve. I spent 1,500 Euros to double check the entire network (a new network), I changed the HUB and trashed the old still working. At this point what could be? Perhaps for netgear will be due to the Mac or PC, but at this point what I can work with?
Windows XP Windows 8 no !, No! OSX 10.4 no! OSX Snow Leopard no! Yosemite No? I try to install linux on all machines? Netgear thanks!!! - nikowebAspirantContinue to disappear files and folders. Then for a while is fine then it starts to become slow and error to give users access to files etc. They came to the conclusion that it is the device that does not work well. In my opinion it is not capable of withstanding a constant work, the operating system is too unstable. Netgear never in my company, I've had enough, now all the trash and take some system other competitors more serious and reliable. Every morning I get up, hoping that the NAS is configured as the day before, I spent a lot of money in technical controls network and eventually discover that it is the fault of netgear.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredI see you have an open support case (#25261052). Support is asking for remote access to look into this. Can you follow up with them?
It sounds like there must be a strange issue going on your system that needs further investigation. - nikowebAspirantI'm sorry, but I can no longer trust Netgear. To check they ask me the password and access to the NAS and mac. Praticamnete I open a door to all sensitive data. For this there is no problem and I trust much of the technicians. Netgear but wants to be relieved of any damage that may happen, even for negligence. And 'here that makes me angry "even negligence". Never again in my netgear company assolutamenta again. Now I try to buy another brand and we see the comparison.I'll let you know soon.

I don't think any manufacturer would be foolish enough to open themselves up to damages for loss of data, and (in the case of business use) associated business losses. These are usual terms, you are over-reacting.
