Pioneer Pro stops responding (4.2.21) #18988091
Hello,
I seem to be suffering from a problem that I don't see others mentioning when using 4.2.21. I own a recently RMAed Pioneer Pro 6 bay Readynas. My old Pioneer would lock up several times a day (I figured this was due to a bad CPU fan) but now my new one is doing the same thing!
Problem:
Several times a day, the NAS stops responding. The LED panel does not print the IP or other data when you press the button. Frontview does not respond to a web browser. My Mac Mini cannot connect to any of the folders.
Environment:
I am using all 6 bays of the Pioneer Pro. As mentioned above, I technically have two of them in my house right now and both suffer from the same problem. I did not have this problem when I was using 4.2.19. My only used Addon's are PLEX MEDIA SERVER (v0.9.6.3.143-4466fb5) , and DnsOMatic (Which I just disabled since I didn't notice it was on before).
What I've tried:

This guy had the same problem I have but on an earlier beta release: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=60222

What I've tried:
- A new Pioneer Pro Readynas!
- Reinstalling 4.2.21 over the top of the current install
- Removing all the addons except Plex (I really want to use Plex and their forums don't speak of this issue)

- PezmanAspirantI am still working with tech support. I have uninstalled Plex (which mostly solved the problem) but the NAS still reboots without warning. There is no notification that it will reboot, and the logs do not add information. It seems to loosely be tied to whenever a C: Scrub happens.
- PezmanAspirantThere was no official reply from support because I am now out of warranty. I was told unofficially, that after looking at the logs, it is likely an AC Power Supply that is failing.
I went online to look for an AC Power supply, but when it arrived from NewEgg the 24 pin connector that reaches to the motherboard is too short! Ack!
Does anyone know how I can acquire a proper AC Power Supply? I originally matched the model and rev number, but it seems like READYNAS had some private label version. - PezmanAspirantUpdate: I have now replaced the power supply and used an ATX extender to make it reach. However, the original problem of random reboots persists!
Can someone please what next steps I should look into?
To restate the the issue for anyone needing a TLDR summary:
My Readynas Pioneer Pro randomly reboots for no logical reason. It does this several times a day. I have contacted support who ultimately told me that it was a bad power supply, which I have now replaced and still have the same issue. I was also told it was Plex, so I have uninstalled plex and do not use it any longer. I have since had to purchase another Pro 6 to copy all this data over to it so I don't lose work and then I performed a factory reset (I believe, is there a way to check?) and now started moving files back over to it. Once again, it started rebooting for no reason!!
When it comes back online it always says "Resync C:" sometimes the Resync doesn't finish before the next random reboot
Ack! I could kick this thing.
I am using RAIDiator 4.2.22 which was the latest available back in March. I could update, but I doubt that fixes much.
Thus far I have pushed a significant amount of money into resolving this and the original issue still occurs.

Mon Mar 18 20:18:45 PDT 2013 System is up. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf you lost your data after you reset, then you did one.
I'd contact support again, and tell them them power supply didn't fix it. They should RMA the entire unit. - PezmanAspirantI'm out of warranty :( Any other ideas StephenB?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you just have one or two disks in the NAS do you still have this issue?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced User
You are suggesting that he remove the existing disks (powered down) and insert scratch disks to see? The alternative would be to factory reset with one or two disks installed, and recover everything from backup later on.mdgm wrote: If you just have one or two disks in the NAS do you still have this issue?
One possibility is that the replacement supply doesn't have quite enough power. I think that might be where mdgm is going. What supply did you purchase?
Are you using the same drives you had back in July 2012? Also, I am wondering if disk spindown is still disabled? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt hangs even on a memory test. Yes, I think power could be an issue.
- PezmanAspirantAdditional Information:
Under my desk I have two ReadyNases. One is a Pro 6 with 6x3TB WD Red Drives. The other (the one that doesn't work as well) is plugged into a different socket and is a Pioneer Pro 6 with 2xWD20EARX, 2xWD10EADS (Green), and 2xWD30FFRX. The Pro 6 never has had a reboot issue. This is my second Pioneer Pro 6 (The first one in this same config also did not have this reboot issue)
At your recommendation, I have removed the 2xWD10EADS (Green), and 2xWD30FFRX and rebooted the device. I'll let it run for a bit with only the 2 EARX in and see if the random rebooting it persists. - PezmanAspirantAfter three hours, the machine has not yet rebooted with only two hard drives. By now under normal conditions it would have rebooted about 2 times.
I'm am going to add two more drives back and see if the rebooting returns under the load of 4 drives.
As for the question of "What Power Supply" I purchased this: SeaSonic SS-300SFD 300W SFX12V v3.1 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 300W%20%25
Do you have a recommendation of a better unit to purchase? I'll gladly do so, this just happened to be what was originally in the box (as best as I could tell from the model numbers
