ReadyNAS 1000S
Hi I have an odler Ready nas 1000s and I went to upgrade it to 2tb hard drives (not sure if it could take them) and now it just powers up with a blue flashing light and drives 1 and 3 light constantly on. have tried putting it back to the orirginal 4 disks and doing a factory reset but it wont have any of it.
Is there a way I can send it into net gear for repair?
Cheers

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Infrant ReadyNAS 1000S is long out of warranty. However some help can be provided on this forum.
Looking at this link http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/hardware/what_does_this_light_pattern_mean, I'd suggest you try a TFTP boot recovery. If that doesn't work, then the flash in the NAS is in question and may need replacing.
The 1000S is compatible with 2TB drives (but not any larger capacity). Please choose drives from the Hard Disk HCL e.g. for the NV+ (v1), Duo (v1) or 1100 which are other Sparc ReadyNAS.
I would recommend you update to RAIDiator 4.1.7 or later and do a factory default with the 2TB disks in place. This will give you 4k sector alignment. Without this you will have poor write performance if you chose 4k sector disks. - buck_rogers999AspirantOk looking at the lights it appears to me missing a radiator image how do I reinstall this image?
Ok I will buy some 2tb drives from that list.
I know it is out of warranty I was more meaning paying for someone to take a look at it.
Cheers
Matt - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe FAQ provides instructions for TFTP boot recovery (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_perform_a_tftp_boot_recovery). Can you try that?
- buck_rogers999AspirantHi,
I have tried to re flash it seemed to be going ok and copied radiator across however it is now sat there afterwards flashing all the disk lights orange and then flash disks 1 and 3 orange then back to all the disk lights.
Any ideas?
should i just leave it for a couple of hours?
Matt - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou might need to power down the NAS, remove the CF card and try writing the firmware to it e.g. using rawrite or NTRawrite (depending on which version of Windows you are running). On Linux/Mac you could use DD.
If the CF card is bad, then trying a known working 128MB or higher capacity CF card would be the way to go. - buck_rogers999Aspirantok ive managed to get the cf card and im just going to buy a new one to make sure its good and have downloaded raw write where do i find the image file for the firmare so i can load it onto the cf card.

- buck_rogers999AspirantHi, I have got a flash card reader but struggling to work out how to use the imaging software to get the image to extract onto the drive.
As it keeps coming up with no floppy drives available.
Have tried to contact net gear tech support and they have been as useful as a chocolate fire gaurd and are basically not interested in any products that are out of warranty. Which has made me consider not even purchasing another net gear product if they aren't interested in repairing or even putting you in touch with a company that can.
So currently I still have a £1000 door stop still - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour computer thinks your card reader is a floppy drive?
Have you installed software/drivers (if there is some) for your card reader?
What OS are you using (e.g. Windows XP)?
Edit: Are you using Rawrite or NTRawrite? - buck_rogers999AspirantNo my pc sees my card reader and card fine and transfers data.
But when I start up raw write it says no floppy drives detected.
I'm using windows 7.
